A Fort Saskatchewan man is facing sexual assault charges after providing alcohol to underage girls in exchange for sexual favours, police say.

Police launched an investigation on April 2 after a complaint was made against the 21-year-old man, RCMP said in a news release on Wednesday.

The man is charged with two counts of sexual assault and two counts of sexual interference.

Sexual interference charges are laid in cases where a person is believed to have touched a person under the age of 16 in a sexual way.

'Trust your instincts'

The accused is due back in Fort Saskatchewan provincial court on June 1.

RCMP are releasing few details on the case, but warned parents and young children to be wary of similar crimes.

"It's important for young people to watch out for each other, and to listen to their instincts," Staff Sgt. Mike McCauley of said in a statement. "If a situation doesn't feel completely right, trust your instincts and remove yourself from the situation.

"We encourage parents to continue to have conversations with their teenagers about these tough topics."
