President’s Message

A message from Hubert T. Lacroix, President and CEO

Hubert T. Lacroix
President and CEO, CBC/Radio-Canada

I believe that a public broadcaster should hold itself to the highest standards. At CBC/Radio-Canada, this sense of responsibility extends beyond our programming to how we manage our business – including what we do for our planet.

This is our fifth annual report on our environmental performance, and we at CBC/Radio-Canada can be proud of our accomplishments over the past half-decade. To name but a few: our air emissions, water and energy consumption have all decreased.

But that’s not where our efforts end. This year, we continued to strengthen our environmental program, laying the groundwork for an electronic environmental management system. To be implemented in 2013–2014, it will allow us to track and benchmark our performance even more accurately in future reports.

We've also put in place new initiatives that enable our employees to make sustainability a priority every day. From expanding our e-waste programs across the country to clean commute events and awareness activities, our people are at the heart of our success and drive many of the positive changes we report on here.

Each and every one of us has a stake – and a role to play – in the future of our planet. Read our report for more on our commitment to being a sustainable player in the broadcasting industry.
