Policy 1.1.14: Announcement and Commemorative Programming - Deaths of Important People

Effective: July 6, 1994

The following principles and procedures apply to the announcement of the deaths of important people and to the broadcasting of commemorative programs:

  1. Regular program service should be interrupted only to announce the passing of an outstanding figure whose death would be a notable public event.
  2. Management of the program areas affected determines the amount of air time to be given according to the nature and importance of the event or situation.
  3. The preceding directives must be followed in the event of the death of the Sovereign, the Governor General of Canada (and predecessors), the Prime Minister of Canada (and predecessors), among others.
