Policy 1.1.19: Provision of Legal Assistance

Effective: July 6, 1994

It is the responsibility of the Legal Department of the Corporation to provide legal assistance and advice to ensure that the operations of the Corporation are carried out in accordance with applicable law and that the interests of the Corporation are safeguarded. Where difficulties arise which are of legal significance, and indeed where it can be foreseen that such difficulties may arise, employees should request such advice and assistance in consultation with their supervisors. The Corporation's Legal Department may provide such advice and assistance themselves or may, if the circumstances warrant, engage outside counsel.

In any case where implementation of the legal advice received might be thought to interfere with the program objectives to be achieved, it is the responsibility of producers to consult with their supervisors in order to achieve a proper resolution of the difficulty.
