Note from Paul Jané

Sync Editorial

As its Chief Editor, I welcome you to this first issue of SYNC, the new online magazine sponsored by CBC/Radio-Canada’s Technology Strategy Board (TSB). This publication is designed to showcase our media and technology teams working together with the help of leading-edge technology to transform our content production, media operations, and business practices. Our Board of Editors aim to continue the tradition of excellent technical writing at CBC/Radio-Canada, while widening the spotlight to show the variety of ways in which media technology is fundamentally transforming Canada’s national public broadcaster and how we provide programming content to all Canadians.

We launch this first issue with a look at the new content “superhighway” that is revolutionising the way our employees work, our use of Cloud computing, and how devices such as tablets are becoming critical business and production tools. We also investigate our digital advantage in local news coverage for the Greater Montreal Area, and just what it takes to get the best search results for your content in Google.

In closing, I would like to take the opportunity to thank all of our contributors and our web team for their efforts, and the TSB for its support. I would also like to thank the members of the Board of Editors, without whom this publication would not have been possible:

  • Djamel Djemaoun – Senior Enterprise Architect, Information Technology;
  • Brian Johnston – Supervisor, Broadcast Engineering, Media Operations & Technology;
  • Pascal Marcoux – Senior Manager, NGCN Engineering, Media Technology Services;
  • Pierre Marion – Director, Media Engineering.

I hope that you enjoy the selection of articles featured in our first issue, and those in our many issues to come.
