I am very pleased to welcome you to the fifth issue of SYNC, CBC/Radio-Canada’s online media, operations, and technology magazine, which aims to highlight our latest projects and business initiatives.
The theme that ultimately stands out the most in this issue is the way in which technology is being used within the Corporation with the goal of empowering workers to strive for greater quality and efficiency.
Given the above, this issue features articles on a variety of different subjects, such as the integration between Radio-Canada’s French radio programming and digital services, the revolution brought about by automated production in Radio-Canada’s newscasts, the role played by XDCAM in CBC/Radio-Canada’s HD newsgathering operations, the role fulfilled by the Private Cloud and virtual servers within the Corporation, the turning points faced by CBC/Radio-Canada, and a look at the Polycom HD videoconferencing system that is in place.
Additionally, this issue features the début of a new regular feature in SYNC, the Digital Digest, which takes a look at technological trends and their potential effects on CBC/Radio-Canada’s operations.
As usual, I would like to take a moment to thank all of our contributors for their efforts, and the TSB for its support. Furthermore, I would like to thank the rest of the SYNC Board of Editors:
