SYNC Editorial - Paul Jané

Éditorial de SYNC

I cannot overstate how pleased I am to welcome you to the third issue of SYNC, CBC/Radio-Canada’s online media, operations, and technology magazine, which is meant to showcase the latest projects and business initiatives driven by the Technology Strategy Board (TSB).

2013 is going to be a big year for the Corporation insofar as technology and communications are concerned, and this issue will feature in-depth looks at some fairly revolutionary changes throughout CBC/Radio-Canada’s infrastructure, as well as the way in which we deliver content to Canadians. 2013 brings us the much-anticipated replacement of the Corporation's email system with a new, Cloud-based one provided by Google, as well as the implementation of a new Telecom Expense Reporting Management System, and new Unified Communications initiatives that will change the way in which we do business. Digital Television is already changing the way in which we deliver content to Canadians, and this issue will show you how to improve your DTV reception, not to mention the efforts that CBC/Radio-Canada is making to ensure that Canadians will be able to view our content live and on the move on a variety of mobile and handheld devices. Additionally, our contributors take a closer look at the revolution in local news coverage and programming offered in Eastern Quebec thanks to Radio-Canada Est du Québec, as well as the importance of heightened security and awareness whilst moving through the digital information landscape.

As always, I would like to seize this opportunity to thank all of our contributors for their efforts, and the TSB for its support. Moreover, I would like to thank the rest of the SYNC Board of Editors:

  • Jean-Pierre Bédard – Director, Telephony & Unified Communications;
  • Djamel Djemaoun – Senior Enterprise Architect, Information Technology;
  • Brian Johnston – Supervisor, Broadcast Engineering, Media Operations & Technology;
  • Pierre Marion – Director, Media Engineering.

Without their support and cooperation, none of this would have been possible. I hope that you will enjoy the selection of articles featured in this issue, and that we will have the pleasure of your company and feedback over many more issues to come.
