As its Chief Editor, I am extremely pleased to welcome you to the second issue of SYNC, CBC/Radio-Canada’s online media, operations, and technology magazine, which is meant to showcase business initiatives sponsored by the Technology Strategy Board (TSB) in the interest of providing content to all Canadians, Everyone, Every way, as efficiently and cost-effectively as possible.
This issue will feature closer looks at a variety of subjects, such as Adaptive Bitrate (ABR) streaming of content over the Web, the role played by Business Intelligence in our organisational decision-making processes, the adoption of a fully file-based workflow throughout CBC/Radio-Canada, how our Print Optimisation Program is helping us meet our commitments to the environment, the centralisation of our Radio operations within the English and French Services as well the role played by the Radio Broadcast Data System (RBDS) in providing a thoroughly modern radio experience to our listeners, and a look at how we are making the best use of technology to simplify our broadcasting of live events through the Remote Production Terminal (RPT). As a bonus, this issue also features a report by CBC News correspondent David Common on how his iPhone has become a very valuable newsgathering tool.
In closing, I would like to take the opportunity to thank all of our contributors for their efforts, and the TSB for its support. Furthermore, I would like to thank the rest of the Board of Editors:
