Welcome to Gender, Sexuality and Women's Studies at Temple University!

Gender, Sexuality and Women's Studies at Temple offers a cohesive framework of inquiry for the examination of women, gender, and sexuality in the U.S and around the world, as they relate to other social categories, such as race, class, disability, nationality, and ethnicity.  As an interdisciplinary program housed in the College of Liberal Arts, Women’s Studies takes into account social, historical, and cultural variables in its study of women’s material and cultural experiences as a social group; the examination of the workings of gender as an analytical category, identity, and social force; and the social, political, and cultural functioning of sexuality.

With over 150 affiliated faculty members, we offer a range of courses that support an undergraduate major, two minors, and an undergraduate certificate. The certificate program is specially designed for students working outside of the College of Liberal Arts. One of minors is in LGBT Studies, it is a free standing program housed in Gender, Sexuality and Women's Studies.

Temple's Gender, Sexuality and Women's Studies program offers a Graduate Certificate in Gender, Sexuality and Women's Studies. The certificate program is open to graduate students enrolled in all of Temple University's various graduate schools and programs. This includes Temple University's professional and doctoral programs as well as its numerous master of arts programs. Students pursuing graduate studies complete the Certificate in Gender, Sexuality and Women's Studies as a professional credential that signifies the centrality of gender, sexuality and women's studies in their graduate work at Temple

The Gender, Sexuality and Women's Studies Program sponsors lectures, forums, and workshops. It also supports a number of undergraduate student awards in gender, sexuality and women's Studies. The Program also plays a key role in the Greater Philadelphia Women's Studies Consortium (GPWSC). Through the Consortium, we bring major scholars, performers, activists and writers to Temple and to the region through an annual Scholar in Residence initiative. The Consortium also sponsors an annual student activism workshop and supports the annual Geis Women's Studies Student Conference at the University of Delaware. Temple's Gender, Sexuality and Women's Studies Program had the privilege to host conferences in 2015 and 2016 as part of the Consortium.
