Environment

Hydro Tasmania is committed to a sustainable environment and a clean and healthy environment for current and future generations. We contineue to maintain a leading position as an environmentally responsible and low carbon intensity business.

We are committed to reducing our environmental impacts wherever we can. We do this by working with experts in environmental research, looking at areas like threatened species, environmental flows, fish migration, and the general health of our waterways. We work with other organisations to achieve common goals by sponsorship and funding practical environmental projects and joint research.

Our water licence means we have stewardship for the six water catchments in Tasmania in which we operate, making us the largest water manager in Australia. We have obligations to monitor river and lake levels, water quality and biological information. This data is also useful to help us address community concerns, such as those that come from our water management reviews; it also helps our research projects.

Our environmental management system is ISO 14001 certified. View our Environmental Policy here.  (PDF 2.0 MB)
