Ray Davies will make his return to the Royal Albert Hall this autumn, bringing his songbook of classic British hits spanning from his days in The Kinks, up through his recent solo repertoire.

The singer is known for penning some of the country’s most treasured songs for The Kinks in the 1960′s, including Waterloo Sunset, LolaYou Really Got Me and Sunny Afternoon and has been recognised with a host of awards, including a CBE for ‘services to music’, Mojo’s Songwriter Award and being inducted into the UK Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with The Kinks.

His work with The Kinks has left a significant legacy on the history of British rock music, with the likes of The Clash, Blur, Oasis and The Jam citing the band as a major influence.

His band The Kinks performed at the Hall on two occasions. Firstly on 9 November 1964 as part of a Top Beat concert alongside The Hollies, The Pretty Things and a host of other big names from the day. They returned 29 years later on 11 July 1993.

Ray Davies has performed 3 concerts here as a solo performer. Firstly on 28 September 2005 with support from John Reilly, then on 10 May 2007 with David Saw, and most recently on 23 May 2010, supported by Californian rockers The 88.

The singer also performed here on 7 July 1996 as part of A Hip Mass: The Super Jam, a nine hour celebration of poetry to mark the first International Poetry Day. Other performances on the day came from Damon Albarn, John Cooper Clarke, Patti Smith, Michael Horovitz and many others.
