2Somethings need testing
ByJacobon June 5, 2012
So that is what have I done - I decided to be skeptical.
I've wrapped several different RFID cards and my RFID Car Key in these sleeves, and tested them on various readers. The end result, the sleeves manage to protect only to a point. For scanners that I previously could be 3 inches away from and have operate with the naked card, we're now down to 1 inch. For the car key, I wrapped it in TWO sleeves(not an easy task but it left nothing exposed, there was no noticeable effect. For items I previously had to tap, I still can tap right through the sleeve.
How do I explain the discrepancy in my results (that it had no effect on two of the tests and only an effect on the first)? I can only hold the car key at arms length, perhaps the serviceable radius is normally much greater than my reach. For tap, well, I really can't explain that one, range 0 readers just don't seem impacted.
I am curious to hear from other people that have tested these sleeves. Perhaps I got a defective batch, or perhaps we have reason to be skeptical about such solutions.
