HEFCE is led by the HEFCE Board, which is responsible for the strategic direction of the organisation. There are between 12 and 15 Board members, and about five observers (including a student representative).
Standing committees and working groups advise the chief executive and Board on specific issues.
Policies are then developed and put into practice by HEFCE’s staff, based within six directorates and overseen by the HEFCE Executive Group.
