Web facility

The web facility is a secure online tool that we provide to help universities and colleges return accurate data to the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) or the Data Service.

About the web facility

Data uploaded to the facility will produce outputs, which will allow institutions to identify potential errors in their data, so that these can be corrected before they formally submit them.

Typically universities and colleges use the web facility and retrieve the resultant derived statistics several times before all identified errors are corrected. Therefore, we will not restrict universities' or colleges' use of the web facility. However, users should be aware that response times of the facility may be slower at times when there is high demand.

We expect that universities and colleges will use the facility for planning purposes, and to increase their understanding of our funding methodology. Universities and colleges should include adequate time within their timetable to allow them to make full use of the web facility without jeopardising HESA or ILR quality arrangements or timetables.

How to use the facility

Instructions on how to use the web facility can be found in our guide 'How to use the HEFCE web facility'.

Universities may also access the web facility by 'committing' HESA data to HESA's Data Collection System.
