Oregon Symphony CD makes Alex Ross’s top 10 list

by on December 8, 2011

In his blog, Alex Ross, the classical music critic at The New Yorker magazine, has listed the Oregon Symphony’s latest album, “Music for a Time of War” as one of the ten best classical recordings of the past year. That has got to taste like icing on the cake to the members of Oregon’s flagship orchestra, which is enjoying a resurgence under Music Director Carlos Kalmar. At the orchestra’s last annual meeting a couple of months ago, it was announced that the board would like to do three more recordings with Kalmar and company. In the meantime, the orchestra is continuing its search for a new concertmaster and making mental preparations for its return appearance at Carnegie Hall in the spring of 2013.
