Rolling Stones return to Berlin after nearly 50 years

The Rolling Stones have returned to Berlin after nearly half a decade for a concert at the legendary Waldbühne.

Fans in the German capital gathered in 35 degrees Celcius heat to see the legendary British rock band.

Among the crowd was Klaus Meine, the singer with German heavy metal band Scorpions: “I am looking forward to an awesome concert. Great mood here at the Waldbühne, awesome gig, and the Stones… It doesn’t get much better than that,” he said.

The concert’s 22,000 tickets were sold out within minutes according to organizers.

The Stones last played in Berlin back in 1965. That concert famously ended in a riot and the venue had to be closed for refurbishment.

Things were quite different this time round, with the foursome, now aged between 67 and 73, getting the crowd to sing along.

“I have been a Stones fan ever since I was little and now I’ve finally seen them perform live. It was great,” said one fan.

“It was tempered, the audience is no longer made up of young and hip Rock’n‘Roll fans. But it was a great concert,” said another

“It’s a love affair,” enthused one French fan.

The Rolling Stones resumed their world tour last week in Oslo.

It was called off in March after Mick Jagger’s girlfriend L'Wren Scott was found dead in her Manhattan apartment in what’s believed to have been a suicide.

The legendary band is now resuming the European leg of its '14 On Fire' tour before heading to Australia and New Zealand in October.
