EU ministers strike tentative deal on workers’ rights abroad

EU employment ministers have struck a tentative agreement on which rules should apply to workers posted abroad.

The deal would implement slightly tighter controls on employees who are sent by their company to work in another country.

They include increased checks on firms to make sure they are not abusing European labour laws.

Employers will be also asked to provide proper documentation.

But the proposed legislation still requires further negotiation between MEPs, the Commission and national governments.

France had been one of the countries pushing for a stricter interpretation of EU rules, describing the current set as “social dumping.”
