General Information

Melbourne is set around the shores of Port Phillip Bay, while the city centre is laid out on the northern banks of the Yarra River, about five kilometres from the bay.   This lively city combines a love for the creative arts and good living.  Extending around the bay, and a short tram ride away are a number of inner suburbs, each with its own distinct character and personality.  Most visitors base themselves in the city centre which is home to museums, theatres, restaurants, bars and shops. The city's layout makes Melbourne an easy city to navigate, and almost everything is within walking distance – if it's not, simply hop aboard a train, tram or bus.

Melbourne's bus network is runs frequently to major hubs, including shopping centres, schools, hospitals, leisure and sporting activities, and Melbourne's biggest attractions. Visitors are recommended to buy Metcards which can be purchased on board from the driver, Premium Stations or retail outlets.  Flinders Street Station is the hub of Melbourne’s train system with all trains beginning or ending their journey here.  The City Loop is Melbourne’s underground system with five stations servicing the CBD.  Melbourne’s famous trams are a great way to explore the city and inner suburbs and provide a scenic way to explore the city and inner suburbs.

St Mary’s College is a popular venue for conferences, seminars and accommodation due to the proximity and ease of access to the City of Melbourne.  Its adjacent to the University of Melbourne and close to public transport.  St Mary's provides a high quality academic and residential College living experience for university students in the Loreto / Catholic tradition.

Transport from Airport
Melbourne's Airport has direct air links with all Australian capital cities, several airports in New Zealand, most major European and Asian cities, and Hawaii and California. The airport is thirty minutes by taxi from St Mary’s College. From the College trams run every few minutes into the city centre, a journey of about ten minutes; shuttle buses are available from the airport to the city centre.
