Speculation mounts over Prandelli

Cesare Prandelli's hint that he will step down as Italy coach after next summer's World Cup has raised the question as to who could replace him at the helm of the Azzurri.

The former Fiorentina coach told a news conference that he would reveal the decision surrounding his future as soon as Italy book their ticket for Brazil, a remark which has been interpreted as meaning he will lead Italy to the World Cup, but not beyond.

Tension to spill over in crunch clash

It reduces the need to procure a point or three in Columbus on Tuesday. It soothes an infuriated group of supporters hardly satiated by the 4-1 triumph over Cote D'Ivoire in August. It takes away most of the danger from this qualification process, even with just one home fixture against Panama remaining in October.

The biggest deal of the day was Arsenal completing the signing of Germany playmaker Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid for a fee of around 42.4 million Pounds.
