Regular maintenance: power
Grid maintenance requires that equipment and parts be replaced and adjusted periodically. Power has to be switched off by neighborhood to allow our workers to engage in maintenance activities safely.  We stage maintenance activities to minimize service disruptions to our customers.  Regular servicing is done at 500 substations annually, requiring a three-year cycle to complete regularly-scheduled maintenance at all 1,400 stations. 

Regular maintenance: water
Our water master plan includes long-term planning and short-term annual upgrades. Maintenance on the water distribution system consists primarily of pipe replacement.
Water must be disconnected by neighborhood to allow our workers to engage in maintenance activities safely.  We stage maintenance activities to minimize service disruptions to our customers. 

Informing customers of expected outages
As regular maintenance takes place in accordance with our maintenance schedule, we can inform customers the time of expected service interruption in person or via media outlets.  We use several channels to inform you of the time of expected short interruptions in the supply of water or power. 

Regular maintenance activities are announced by advertisement every Thursday and Friday in four newspapers.
Major companies are also informed in advance by phone by our PR Department of planned interruptions of water or power.
