KOTOR and TSL Save Game Editor (English Language Only) (3.3.3) - File Description  


Description:
The Save Game Editor (KSE) by tk102 (a very talented scripter) has been the most popular download here by far at FileFront. It’s always every week been the most popular download since I’ve been coming here, and for good reason too since it’s the most useful tool out there. For my personal use, I use it all the time for both Knights of the Old Republic games.

I love that you can edit just about anything in your game because all this mod requires is a saved game. I mean if you want to add strength to your PC, you can. Extra computer skills, you can. You can pick the number you want for it too and you’re free to choose what number you want to for that particular attribute, or skill. If you want some extra feats, Force Powers, change of the PC’s class, you can. You can also do this for your party members, not just your PC. If you want some extra components, or chemicals to work with, this tool is perfect for doing that. Want to change your name, you can. You can even change your party member’s names. Want to change your appearance or your party members, you can. Need to get a specific weapon and it’s not available for a while in your personal game, you can. These are just a few examples you can do with this useful tool. Explore with this tool and find out what you can do that I haven’t mentioned.

If you want this tool to work, you will have to quit your game once you make a save slot. Then open the KSE and open up the save you just made. Make sure when you make any changes, you hit the Apply button and when you’re done, hit the Commit Changes button. I also recommend that you make a back up save just in case you do something to mess your game up. It’s possible you can do something to cause some conflicts and crashes, so be wise and don’t say I didn’t warn you. wink A common mistake is that people open the wrong saved game file, so when you want to mess with a saved game, give a name that sticks out that no other saved game has just to make sure.

For Those Who Can't Open It: Just so you all know, if you can't open the KSE, I found out that if you have installed a mod that messed with the dialog.tlk and spells.2da file, and if you ever uninstalled your game and re-installed it, the KSE will not work in any game since you needed to make a back up of the dialog.tlk file. You will have to re-install your mods that modify the dialog.tlk file. The simple way of getting around it is to make sure that KSE can't read your override folder by renaming it temporarily or renaming your spells.2da file temporarily. Just do something to make sure that the spells.2da file is not being read by the KSE.

KotOR Savegame Editor is a Perl/Tk application used in the editing of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic savegame files. The following fields are currently editable:

*=Note: Max Hit Points and Max Force Points, while editable appear to be calculated at the time the savegame is loaded. Therefore while these fields are editable, the game will change the values back to what it calculates as correct. It is therefore better to change your Wis/Cha and Con to affect your MFP and MHP.

Before Using KSE
-----------------

Before using KSE, it recommended that you make a backup of your 'saves' directory, just in case.

For KotOR1, it is also recommended that you download the KSE Fixed Cutscene Files and place them into your override folder. Available at http://www.pcgamemods.com -- at timeof writing the url is http://www.pcgamemods.com/8800

Intro to KSE
---------------
KSE is a stand-alone executable that can be located anywhere on your hard drive. Upon launch, it attempts to locate the KotOR and TSL installation directories based upon its registry entry. If an installation directory is not located in this manner, a BrowseForFolder dialog is displayed and KSE will look for the presence of swkotor.exe (for KotOR1) or swkotor2.exe (for KotOR2) in that directory. Savegames are assumed to be in a folder called 'saves' under the installation directory. Each savegame file ('savegame.sav') is assumed to be in its own subfolder along with 'partytable.res', 'savenfo.res', and 'GLOBALVARS.res' files. These assumptions are all based upon a normal
installation, so if you haven't moved files around you're fine.

Manually specifying the game installation path (Xbox users take heed)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You can manually specify the installation path for KotOR or TSL by right clicking the node that says "Knights of the Old Republic" or "The Sith Lords". A popup menu will appear next to your cursor. Choose 'Change Installation Path' and you will be prompted to browse for the installation folder. The tree will be updated automatically if savegames are found. Note that KSE expects the following files and file structure:

Note for Xbox users: Sig files
-------------------------------
Sig files are signatures that tell the Xbox that the savegame is legitimate. There are 7 .sig files that are required for a legitimate Xbox savegame:
SAVE_PARTY.sig
SAVE_VARS.sig
SAVE_INFO.sig
screen.sig
SAVE_HEADERVAR.sig
SAVE_DATA.sig
SAVE_HEADER.sig

KSE can create the first 6 of them. The SAVE_HEADER.sig cannot be recreated by KSE at this time. Therefore Xbox users will need to preserve their original SAVE_HEADER.sig and cross their fingers that it their KSE-edited game will accept that .sig file.

KSE began generating .sig files automatically as of v2.2.0. As of v3.3.2, KSE will now only generate .sig files if a .sig file exists in your saves(whatever) directory. If you haven't copied over the .sig files from your Xbox with savegame.sav file, you can create a dummy file with a .sig extension in that savegame folder and that will be enough for KSE to know that you want to generate .sig files when you edit your game.

Using KSE
-------------
Upon detection of the above folder/files, KSE will layout each savegame in a treeview window. Click on the [+] and [-] buttons to open/close. When selecting a savegame for the first time, there is a couple seconds of delay as the file information is loaded into memory, so don't panic. Highlighting different items in the treeview will bring up editing options in the pane to the right of the treeview window.

In the editing pane, there are will usually be two buttons at the bottom labeled as 'Apply' and 'Commit Changes'. The Apply button will
update the treeview and apply changes in memory. Commit Changes will write the changes in memory to the actual files. Most changes require the savegame.sav file to be re-written which takes a little while. You will receive a message indicating success in editing the savegame. Note: you don't have to Commit Changes until you're done Applying changes to memory; however, if you are editing multiple savegames, you will need to Commit Changes for each savegame.

Feats and powers have a different appearance in the editing pane. If the 'Feats' group or 'Force Powers' group is selected, the editing pane will contain a listbox of all available Feats or Powers to choose from. Instead of an Apply button, there is an 'Add Feat' or 'Add Power' button. If you already have the feat/power, this button does nothing. If not, the treeview will be updated and the changes will be Applied to memory.

If a particular feat/power is selected from the treeview, you will have the option to Remove it using the editing pane. There's no need to edit feats/powers -- you have to Remove the old one and Add the new one.

Override Folder: Subdirectories NOT supported
---------------------------------------------
Although TSL supports subdirectories in the Override folder, KSE does not. Too often, there are two or more files that are named the same and KSE would have to make some arbritrary decision as to which one to use. Inevitably this will generate bug reports because the end-user expected the other file to be used by KSE. So to save us both that grief, if you wish to add custom items to your inventory or use some custom 2da file, you will need to make sure that you copy those custom files into your override root folder, perform your KSE edits, then remove them. (Note that KotOR also does not recognize subdirectories.)

Notes About Feats and Powers
-----------------------------
As of version 1.0.2, a checkbox has been added which allows you to turn on and off the 'extra' feats and powers that aren't normally accessible during level ups. These are for experimentation and modding purposes. Please don't email me if you crash the game after adding one of these weird feats/powers. However, if you discover a use for one, please post your finding to an appropriate forum so others may learn from your tweaking.

Reminder: No Safety Net!
-------------------------
It should be noted that there isn't much in the way of safety nets built into this program. You can attempt for example to specify a negative
number of experience points or apply other crazy settings which KotOR may or may not understand. I guess that's half the fun, but consider yourself warned. If you're really attached to your savegame, MAKE A BACKUP FIRST.

Notes regarding Class-changing/Adding/Removing
-----------------------------------------------
As of version 0.4.0a, KSE provides the ability to change a character class. This makes for very interesting possiblities, including playing as a Droid or as a non-Jedi class combination. It also allows the player to change their initial class into a Jedi class. There are a couple things to consider when changing classes:

- In TSL, don't choose the "Bounty Hunter (CUT!)" class unless you're asking for trouble

- Do not make a multi-classed character the same class in both classes. KotOR doesn't seem to like that.

- Before changing your class into a droid, you may want to unequip all items first. I've had the game hang during loading when I didn't do this.

- The droid classes grant you Feats like Logic Upgrade but you won't see the icon for them in your Feats screen. Also, KotOR doesn't let you equip droid armor/weapons/implants. That's too bad. :-(

- (For KotOR1) If you make your early single-class character a Jedi class, you'll probably also want to grant him/her the Feat: Force Sensitive to give you an extra 40 points, otherwise you won't be able to do much in the way of force powers until you level up. Also, you won't be able to get any Force Points until you level up once.

As of version 1.3.0, KSE allows you to add and remove classes to your PC and NPCs. It is known that the games won't recognize more than 2 classes. I wouldn't recommend removing all your classes either. Then you'd just be a couch potato and you don't need a game for that. :-)

Notes regarding changing levels
--------------------------------
As of version 1.0.5, you now have the ability to directly change your PC and NPC class levels. Adding additional levels will affect your Hit Points and your Max Hit Points and maybe some other secondary attributes. The amount of experience points needed to further level up will also increase accordingly. You can level up past level cap (20 for KotOR, 50 for TSL), though it doesn't do much in terms of gameplay.

Leveling down will subtract previously gained powers/feats/skills and maybe attributes that you received from leveling up. The game stores all the information about what level you were when you gained your abilities. So if you level down, it forgets you had those abilities.

For the normal player, I can't think of much use for changing your level. For modders, changing levels may hold more importance.

Known Bugs
===============

Inventory Hiccup
------------------
If an item is added to your inventory and it has the same Tag as another item, KSE will generate an error.

Getting Stuck During Vision Sequence (KotOR1)
--------------------------------------
Symptom: After leaving the Endar Spire or Leaving Taris, you run into a sequence where you should be seeing a "dream" cutscene but instead you're locked up in a room with a "CutStart" object that doesn't do anything.

Cause: You have NOT placed the modified .dlg files into your override directory and you have changed your character to a Jedi/Minion/Droid class or you have changed your Gender to something other than Male or Female.

Fix: Download the KSE Fixed Cutscene Files (available from http://www.pcgamemods.com/8800 ) and place the .dlg files into your Override folder.

After changing appearance to look like (an NPC), the real NPC has no head!

Symptom: You change appearance to look like one of your party NPCs and all is well until you attempt to enter a new area with that NPC. Then the NPC loses its head!

Cause: SW:KotOR doesn't like two unique characters appearing together.

Fix: From T7Nowhere's post on Holowan Labs--

I know how to fix the head problem, but it will take a bit of work.

The thing about it. Bioware set it up so that you can't encounter an npc with your head, so in appearance.2da there is a normalhead and backup head columns.

So in order for and npc not to loose there head that npc would need an backup head. As Juhani is a unique npc she doen not have a backup and when you transition from one area to another the game checks appearance.2da (I suspect) and since your character comes first the game will give you juhani's head and she looses hers.

There is a way to remedy this and it is simple open up appearance.2da with KT (if you have that file in override then open that appeance.2da) go to row 8 which is Party_NPC_Juhani and scroll ove until you see columns "normalhead" & "backuphead" and simple type 5 in the backuphead column save the file back to override. And now you and Juhani can be twins. if you would like juhani to have a different head when you take hers then simply open heads.2da to find an appropriate female head (or male. what ever make you happy) and type that number in the backuphead column and save appearance to override.

Don't worry this is very simple to do.

You know the sounds your NPC's make when you switch party members, like when they say, "Huh", "What?", I'm ready", etc. Also what sounds they make in battle, things like that.

No. That is triggered by scripts with the streamwave files. Like if you change Bastila's soundset, she will still sound like Bastila in conversations, but when she's in battle, she'll make others if you change it.

I almost want to say you're not using the apply button correctly, or you're not using the commit changes button after you apply your changes, or you're making changes to a different save than you think you are.

Point is you are doing something incorrectly, or it would work. It's too bad nobody can physically see what you're doing and point out what you need to change.

im doindg correctly anfter i add what i change i apply and then i press commit change but when i began my save game it hasent changed,but thats odd,i did all that close the Kotor save game editor and when i began it agin all apears like it the beggining.
by the way i only have 1 save game.it must be a bug or something.......

pretty sweet that u can use kotor 1 characters in TSL xD (Im using malak currently) some are a bitt bugged (like malak vs some who doesent have a sword/saber) but it works anyway stick out tongue

When you open your saved game, look towards the bottom of the contents and look for inventory. Open and then highlight the inventory and on the right hand side, you should see it building a master list. Everything is in alphabetical order. The lightsabers are in the “g’s”. Like a blue lightsaber would be g_w_lghtsbr01.

In the review I mention how to add items and how to make sure it saves when you make changes so read over that. It's in the second paragraph.

pretty cool. Something you might want to add to this tool in the future is the ability to change any characters appearance in the game, not just party members. For example I wanted to change all of the Jedi masters from Kotor 2 to have the appearance of the Jedi council characters in the first knight of the old republic. But I can't because this option is not available from what I can see.
I also had a question. Is there a way to change a characters stats so that they no longer have any armor restrictions? I want to get Bao-Dur to wear some Jedi robes but he can't even after he becomes a Jedi.

I don't have personal experience making this work for the Xbox, but I do know that your Xbox has to be modded in order to make this program work for it.

all of a sudden the savegame editor wont open. i click to open it and then the hourglass mouse does its thing for 3 seconds but then it disappears and the file doesnt open. i already redownloaded it. any solutions?

Try giving your override folder another name, or both KOTOR games if you have both so KSE does not read what's in it. See if you can open it after that. Try that and get back to me.

Sounds like it's because your character is the wrong class and other little issues. Basically it's more of game problem than a KSE problem. You can crash your game using KSE, so in a way, you're using at your own risk.

Hey, when I gave myself a whole bunch of experience to level up it got rid of Visas Marr. When i click on the blank box where she used to be it says "I am broken, so very broken." Anyone know what the problem is?

Sounds like you did something to corrupt your saved game. If you had taken the time to read the readme, you are warned to make a backup save before attempting to edit a save.

This tool gives you the freedom to change what you want, but that doesn't mean the changes will cooperate with the game and if the game doesn't cooperate, something is going to either break or be corrupted.

I have about 10 hours logged in KOTOR 2 but when I went to play it this morning all 4 of my saves were gone. I contact tech support but they dont know what happened. To make it wierd i downloaded the Save editor and low and behold it found the saves! But I still dont know where they are so that i can use them. has this happened to anybody else?

Hello, I have a problem that may be fixed by the save game editor.

My problem is simple: I can't get Mission's brother quest to have the event where Leena shows up at the docks. Other characters show up for my other party members (I have Juhani, Candarus, Bastila, Cart, Julee or whatever his name was) but not for Mission. I talked to her to the point where Leena should appear (she already has talked about her life and her brother, and SPOILER: about how she admitted to tag along in hope to find his brother END OF SPOILER).

I think the right script may have not been initiated because the right global has not been set. What global should I look for to activate or see if its activated?

I have "cut scripts" running. May that help form the problem?

Also, I have an older save game editor's files in the Override folder. Can I delete them?

Okay, so I personally enjoy using this to modify the looks of characters and from there, play my own story as I go. Lame and childish, but can be fun. Anyways, there are two minor complaints.

I don't know if this first one is even possible, but I think it would be cool if you could use the appearences of the NPCs and other unique characters from KOTOR in the TSL. I'm pretty sure this can't be done, since they're different games and probably won't recognize the different textures.

The other thing is that if you try to use any of the portraits from KOTOR (IE: Carth, Original HK-47, Juhani) in the TSL it gives you this fancy message.

Error Msg: Can't use an undefined value as an ARRAY reference at/PerlApp/Bioware/TPC.pm line 190. Anyone knows what that means?

i don't know what it means, i get random errors all the time with it, but i don't think you can use anything from kotor in TSL, except the kotor stuff that was already in the game, and btw: i also change my appearance in kotor and play my own story, right now i'm playing as revan and malak when he was a jedi

It would help if you read the review and the suggestion on how to fix it at the bottom of it. If you do that it will work because it's obvious you have something screwed up in your override folder.

I have downloaded this tool, but i cant even begin the installation of since the program wont open when i click on it. I have tried the renaming tips but it still wont work any more ideas?

I've played the game dozens of times on My Xbox, but now i wanna experiment with modding with the PC. I'm having a problem though getting passed the first Ebon Hawk Turret Sequence. is there a way to skip it or change location before it enter that sequence?

Hey great mod, i used it's early version when i had WinXP.
Now i switched to Vista and i can't open the KSE. I have a clean install of KotOR II, no mods at all, but i can't make it to start. I click it, mouse cursos working, than nothing. Yes, i've read the readme, renamed the Override folder and the dialog.tlk file, but still nothing. I don't have any spybot or antivirus running. Tried it with both the 1.0 and the patched version.

hehe, I've been using this thing for about a month, and by far my favorite thing to do is change someone like either zaalbar or canderous to Darth Malak, then change everyone else into something random like a trandoshan, a dark jedi, master vandar, or even a jawa! also I love changing mission into either a rancor, or the giant dragon that's on tatooine.

This mod as helped my game out very much, I beat each game about six or so times ( Kotor 1 like seven these past weeks, waiting for the TSLRP mod ) but overall thanks alot, I really like editing everything and making my character a GOD.

KOTOR II TSL When I try to go back to any planet on the galaxy map, it goes through the travel sequence but then reverts to the main menu, on which I can't click on anything and have to exit the game w/ ctl-alt-del or whatever else is used. Do you know what causes this problem?

No. Here's what you may want to do if you don't want to start a new game and you have your party. Do a "warp cheat" to the Coruscant dialogue sequence and try that. You could be on the Ebon Hawk. If that does not work, warp to one of the planets (Nar Shadaa, Dantooine, Korriban, Onderon (Dxun)) and the game might continue normally. I can't say for sure, though.

Sorry; never seen that. That's not a KSE issue, it's a bug with the globals. My only suggestion is go back and redo the planet you have just completed. That is why the hint: "Save often and in different slots" are suggested at times when switching modules by Obsidian because they knew there were still bugs because LucasArts rushed the game.

I messed around with carth (in savegame editor) and thenwhen I load the game then he is not in my party and his name is"I Am Broken, So Very Broken" and then he cant join in my party, Whats the deal with that?confusedfrownmad

You use this program at your own risk. Basically you did something that the game didn't agree with. It's not the KSE's fault, it's your fault for trying to do something that the game isn't capable of doing.

That is why you make back-up saves so you're not screwed.

I am at a point on Telos, this has happened in previous game attempts as well.
But i am getting ready to lvl, and as soon as i do Atton Changes from pure light side, to pure darkside......for no reason? I was wondering if you have ever heard of this before. I didn't happen until after I added some lightsaber Crystals to the inventory so i am going to experiment to see if that was the cause, but i didn't save before that so i dunno. Please help if you have any clues.

I dont know if anyone has had this problem before but when i used the Editor to edit my influance with a character or even change my LS/DS rateing all the NPC's but Kreia all shift to DS and only revert to a LS alignment or even Netural rarely, like I said I dont know if anyone else has had this happen to them or not, and I do fully understand that it is at my risk and all, but readding through the Comments here I cant determine if it is a Bug with the Program or if it is my install. If anyone has had this happen to them please let me know, or even if someone has any suggestion I am tring to play a pure LS game and having the NPC's go dark when my character is Pure LS (Do to ingame actions is fustrating.

I've been using this for a Long Time now and it is A.W.E.S.O.M.E.!
Good thing that I make backups of my saved games because sometimes I will be changing stats or giving my guy items from another mod and it will say something like error or something like that. ^_^ And there is that autosave option!

And for the 2 pplz above me. Yeah, that has happened to me but it only happened when I was typing in codes like "addlightside" or "adddarkside". But that actually has happened to me using the KSE before now that I think of it. But it was every once and a while that they would turn dark when I was light.

That has happened to me before. Yeah, "I'm Broken, So Very Broken". It happened sometime on Taris. But it went away near the end I think. All I know is that he is all better once I left the planet, so just go without him.

I am having a problem with KSE. The problem is that it won't work at all. I thought that it may have to do with the EnableCheats line. But I took it out and still no luck. I took out all mods. Still nothing. Did LucasArts patch it or something? Any help on this would be great. Thank you.

Great Tool, have always used it, and once again now that I'm replaying the game with new modules.

Several people here and in other forums have mentioned trouble finding their saved game files, or that KSE finds the "wrong" ones, even when manually setting the location.

KSE, as well as Kotor, should be set to run as administrator(s), which will allow KSE to correctly read the up-to-date save folder.

I think it depends on how the mod is built and its intent.

For example, "Exile's Items" mod items will show up and can be added into inv. via
the editor. Some mods are built so that you must play through the game to find the items, and they cannot be added via the cheat menu. Some reskinned/added stats Mandalorian armors cannot be added. These items usually do not show up in the save game editor, either.

The dialogue.tlk file is actually located outside of override folder and is where the game is actually installed. The game can't function without it.

If the changes to the dialogue.tlk and the spells.2da file are properly changed so they can work together, then the KSE will still function properly.

You're so ignorant. Read the readme and look at the dates and the updates behind it. TK102 has put a lot of time behind this to perfect it. The problem is people lack modding knowledge and screw up parts of their game and the bugs are created by the user, not the author, which is why people at times have a hard time understanding.

There's nothing like being able to alter your save game... I didn't download this mod because i was afraid of all this editing, and yet it's so easy to use and very user friendly! Cowardice on my part... i should have started using this a lonnnng time ago, and thanks for the quick advice, my friend and I have started to Mod and we have affected those two files, but nothings happened and all is well.

(And we're not gonna post Mods here, its just purely for experimentation purposes...but who knows... dun dun dunnnnn :eeksmile

Hello there again!

Heres my quick question in simple stages to break it down:

- I want to install a Mod which edits the dialog.tlk / modifies the spells.2da file for K1

- Once i have installed it, KSE does not run (because of obvious reasons as stated on the review)

- If i just rename my 'spells.2da' file temporarily to 'spells1.2da' and run KSE, I shall have no problems in running KSE, right?

I would like if someone such as JediShemL to answer this... or another very reputable and experienced modder in the KotOR Filefront Community *nudge nudge wink wink*

I'm currently experiencing trouble at telos academy (first time u go there) and editing saves might solve this:

I enter, cutscene of handmaidens surrounding baodur, cutscene of handmaidens surrounding me. Dialoge: Lay down your weapons... / Ok, I mean no harm... / end

right here, a cutscene should be triggered with dialoge between atton an kreia, then I should automatically be taken to talk to atris, but none of it happens.

I stay right where my dialoge with handmaiden ended, and kreia+atton stay behind me. right now there are 2 things I can do: Either walk my way up to atris and trigger the dialoge by talking to her, or talk to atton (this dialoge gives you two [cheat node] options) and select "[cheat node] jump to dialoge between PC and Atris" (or something like that). This last option puts the camera in front of the cage which was supposed to hold kreia (it's empty, cuz the old hag is standing next to me) and you hear her last line of the supposed dialogue with Atton, which is "A critical moment aproaches." Then Atris comes down the walkway and dialogue ensues.

When I go back to where I left those two, they're still there, but depending on the course of action I took before, they're either standing (if I walk to atris and trigger it myself), or kreia is meditating and atton is lying on d floor (If I used his [cheatnode] dialogue).

The problem is, no matter what I do, kreia won't talk to atton and learn his terrible secret, and if I go to the cages to free them, I can't, since the freeing cutscene is triggered by kreia asking if I found what I was looking for, blablabla... and she's on the other side of the academy.

The only one doing what he's supposed to is Bao-Dur, but it's no use, since he won't wake up without the kreia-triggered party-freeing cutscene.

This mess is probably caused by one or two mods, but even if I rename the Override folder, nothing changes, so the guilty mod has probably already messed my Globals.

Does any of you experienced modders know if it is possible to drag those two into their cells by changing Global values?

Even if you're reading this and you have no idea of how to solve this, sending a savegame made RIGHT AFTER ENDING THE DIALOGE WITH ATRIS to me might help allot, since I'll be able to compare Global numerics and boleans and maybe find out the trigger I'm looking for.

That's because there's a bug in the dialog. Blame Obsidian for it. The Ultimate Saber Mod fixes this and the TSL Restoration project will have this fixed too.

You need to pick any other dialog option besides the one you chose.

"Who are you?"
"I'm not giving up my weapons."
"Take my weapons and you die."

If you choose those other three options, the scene will continue like normal. Remember this advice the next time you have a problem like this.

I have dozens of mods and it runs without conflicts. I just edited T3 to have Stealth, Assassination Protocols, Precise Shot, Sneak Attack, the special attack feats (Master Rapid Shot, etc.), and Battle Droid logic - and the other droids are getting some of that later. I love this thing. Infinity/10. stick out tongue Rock Two Thumbs Up!

try reinstalling kse and see if that works. if not, try and see if its in your procceses by hitting alt+ctr;+delete and see if its running, but not loading. Hope this works!big grin

Shem,Halp meh plz. It took away Atton and T-3 From my party, I was in the refugee sector and only thing I did was change my Persuade so I can let the Refugees be left alone,But then it takes my Atton and T-3 and When I furthr save It just stays at the old one, And When I leave the Sector it gives me an error and crashes. I already un-did everything and just removed em from my party through the Editor because ALL My party members are gone and i'm stuck in that sector.. When I go to party member screen it says something like "I'm broken, Sooo broken." Or somethin ..

And when I go to Npc's in KSE It says "Bad StrRef"

It says "I am broken so very very Broken" When I go to party selection screen,I have removed the Party Members with the KSE And can play for now. But this aint fun !

Oh and I just noticed that ALL My force powers are gone.. This thing messed up my game and I don't wanna start over frown

@Kennyboy000: Did you save often and in multiple slots? Sounds like you didn't. TSL even tells you to do that as a tip sometimes when loading different modules.

Sounds like to me that you didn't read the review I wrote. I suggest you do that.

If you had only one saved game and it's messed up, then you're going to have to start over. Now, let this be a lesson to you.

I know, I was feeling silly. Thanks though, I'll keep it in mind ^_^ Im'a go read the review now !

One last thing, I can't get my PC to have Force Breath and the Lightsaber and Force Forms she should have learned, But my NPC's work fine. Exept when I try to level anybody manualy and not Auto Level my game crashes, But.. I want my forms. And I can't seem to find them in the KSE. Thx

I just learned Beast Control and I can't use it .. Special things my PC learns .. I don't have em.

Uhm. Just fix my posts into one .. My PC Can't learn anything. When I lvl I don't get new skills for my PC.

I had to SKIP Onderon and the Fun temple thing because some lame thing I don't know what removed Niko and I couldnt finish the quest..

I enjoyed using your tool to add a few things such as the dark jedi master robes...I had hoped the tool would let me carry over all my save game details into a new game.

I know you can transfer items you've collected but I had hoped all the stats and powers would transfer as well.

ok, i have been using KSE for a couple years and i had to reinstall both kotor games and now when i get on KSE it has saves i cant access. so when i save a kotor game it won't appear on KSE. just the ones i can't get to. help!!!

Everytime I open KSE, it says "kse_333.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close." I don't get it. It worked fine before. And then this started happening, and then, suddenly, I couldn't download anything from Firefox, because the source file could not be read. And, when I tried to search for KSE, it wasn't there, only an empty folder labled "kse_333." So I tried Internet Explorer, and I could download things, so I tried to re-download KSE, and the same thing happened.

Is it the mods that messed it up?

What is going on, and what should I do?

@Revan_Malak: Your problem is not the fact you changed their class. They also need to be given certain feats. For example like Jedi Defense so they can wear robes, and lightsaber proficiency so they can wield a lightsaber. They also need certain types of feats based on the type of class you have given them.

KSE won't start up for me at all. There's no message that comes up, no sign of starting up other than the hourglass pointer appearing for about a second. Any ideas? I've tried completely uninstalling (not a single file remaining from the install, I might add), renaming folders, and much more, and still nothing happens. I don't use any mods or add-ons whatsoever. What am I doing wrong?

Would anyone know of a way that I could go about reversing the whole Hanhar / Mira thing? I don't want Hanhar but I messed up and now I'm stuck at a point where I'm about to get him.

So is there a series of things I could do in the save editor to reverse that? Of course, I cleaned my save files out pretty recently, so the earliest one I have is where Atton is meeting everyone outside of the Ebon Hawk Landing Platform in the Refugee Sector right before the two Bounty Hunters stroll up, talking crap.

I'd greatly appreciate any help anyone can give me here. ;D I seriously hate Hanhar. Mira is much cooler, and plus she can become a Jedi. Hopefully I didn't waste six hours of my life getting to this point, because I'll delete my game and start over if I'm stuck with stupid Hanhar.

The Editor is awesome, I only have TSL, but I'm getting K1 for Christmas. I like it. However, I have one question. In TSL I started the game as Soldier, then when I was about to board the Harbinger, I changed the class to Jedi Guardian and my alignment to 91, and when I tried to load the game, the loading screen went real fast and just before it loaded, the game froze. Do you know what caused this?

Hey I now have a major problem with the save game editor and I think the tomb of Azgath N'dul caused it. Before I added that mod the save game editor worked great and perfectly fine. But when I added it and was trying to use the save game editor it came up with an error that said:

"Attempted to read past end of end of dialog.tlk
(tried to read string 136370 but dialog.tlk has 136331 entries)
KotOR2 Spells.2da"

Do anyone know how to fix this problem?
I could just take out the overdrive folder and insert the one i copied before I added the tomb but I still want to use the tomb.

Sorry for double posting but I found out the problem. Apparently either the patch or the actual mod put the dialog.tlk outside the override folder so when I moved it inside the override folder it let me use the save game editor.

I experienced an odd bug-I used the editor to max my influence with Bao-Dur and Atton, but somehow, the info on Kreia got corrupted-instead of her name under NPC's, it says Bad StrRef, and when I expand the option, it gives me a list of error messages, the appearance, soundset, and portrait lines are blank, and all stats are listed as HASH(0x221f494)

also, great program but i got myself the hak pad mod and theres something about editing all my stats and getting items right there in the game that i like more than having to quit out every time. used this for a while and loved every minute of it though.

I have reinstalled kotor and kotor II recently, i came to the site to download this and once it was done saving i tried to open it and a message came up saying "Access to compressed (zipped) Folder 'Cstick out tonguerogramFilesLucasArtsSWKotOR2kse_333.zip' is denied"

I like how anyone who has read the review and the instructions in the readme, and still says any changes in KSE don't happen, are brushed off as not having read Shem's review, not having read the readme, or not having read both, and told to read it.

Before you brush me off as well, I HAVE read Shem's review, and I have read the instructions in the readme. After following the instructions as I was told, applying the changes then Committing them when finished, I open my save in TSL, and none of the changes I've made are in my save.

If I'm told to read Shem's review, or the instructions in the readme, I'm going to strangle someone. Does anyone have any ideas as to why my (and other people's) changes aren't happening in the saves?

Sorry for the double-post, but I've found the solution, at least for me. It should be noted that, on Vista, if you run KOTOR as an administrator, but you don't run KSE as an admin, any changes you make in KSE will be transferred over your save. Running both as an admin has fixed it for me.

thank you so much, i needed this not to cheat but to reset all my skills and feats cause i finally got my lightsaber but i already wasted all my points on non-lightsaber skills, now i want to reset my character and rechoose everything, this helped me a lot

btw somebody should really make a mod to reset characters and regain all earned points back

I can't seem to change my skill or attribute levels. In fact, the KSE appears to not be able to overwrite or save a file in the correct folder. Should I go and browse for the file, or is there something I'm doing wrong, say...creating a character with 300 strength?

Alright, using someone's advice, I'm running the editor as an administrator. Now, all I need to know are the maximum number of attribute and skillpoints I'm allowed to allocate, and why, for some reason, I'm winding up with negative numbers in certain skills, despite large positive bonuses...

What I'm trying to do is change the Handmaiden's appearance to one of the Female Exile heads. I can only seem to do this when she's naked, when she has any armor on at all she still has her original head. Any help on this will be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I recently started hacking KOTOR (Finished it once and re-downloaded it, on Dantooine stick out tongue) and I was wondering if there was a way to revive Juhani? I tried replacing Zaalbar with her but I dunno which scripts to replace (I tried many but no luck). I killed her by mistake and I saved after that, like a dummy. Is there any way to revive her using KOTOR Tool or this save game editor? Thanks for reading.

This mod is so cool!
I used this mod to get past a bug on Nar Shadda, and everyhting works fine, except...
I was able to turn everybody in my party into Jawas except for the Handmaiden, and I really wanted make her look like Bastila. Can someone help?

I do not know if i am doing it wrong, but it wont open on my computer to edit my xbox saves, it asks for the save directory, but when i add the UDATA folder it only says could not find saves directory. Is this suposed to go on the xbox or is it to be on the computer?

I can relate to a corrupted game.. Tell me, do you think it's normal for Kreia, Handmaiden, and Mira to say "I am broken" instead of showing their portrait and such? Is it normal for T3 to be completely invisible? Is it normal for Atton to be a trandoshan? Is it normal for Disciple to take the place of Handmaiden on one of my MALE saves? Didn't think so. Ooh, guess what came with the Disciple glitch? Atton suddenly decided he was going to think I was a woman. O_O

I didn't read all comments so forgive me if it's already been mentioned.

For some reason, the game didn't show any of the changes made to the file.
I altered a few things like feats ( I want it all! ) and Bastila's attributes ( I like strong women ), hit Apply and Commit Changes, but when I loaded the savedgame it had the un-altered stats.

When opening the editor again, it did actually show the changes I made.
I then tried running the editor in Compatibilty Mode to Windows XP SP2 ), the same my KotOR is set to use.
This caused the edited savedgame's settings to reset, but once done altering, it worked fine.

So if you're using Windows 7 ( perhaps Vista as well ) and the editor DOES show your changes, but the game doesn't, try setting the compatibility mode of the Editor to whatever you have KotOR using.

PS: My first comment. It's been years since I last played KotOR, and some of the mods here make a few more playthroughs much more fun. Awesome work by all!

i was amazed when i used this i thought it would have to have you do coding but all you do is select what you want! I also like that it's compatible mods so you can change your appearance,portrait, (add) force powers etc. to ones that are from mods!

when i change my skills it doesnt work i noticed this when i was on the endar spire and i was going to pick the door when i couldent use it and i endited that save and it didnt work i had to use cheats to open the door.

Alright, this was working for me a few days ago but i had to update graphics drivers to play kotor 2 and now when i edit my kotor 1 saves (kotor 2 untested) it makes compatibilty files which are read by kse but not by kotor meaning i cant load them, but they are missing a file so i cant just merge them it causes game to crash. i am using windows 7.

Im on my windows 7 laptop i cant run kotor 2 cuz it crashes when i start a new game *it goes thru everything but it gets to the part where i should be starting the Prologue it crashes* ANd i cant run KSE 3.3.3 i double click it and it says it loads but nothing happens. I dont have a good OS for kotor and the video card says warning but it WORKS fine, its red for OS and yellow for video and like i said it works great, but its green for everything xcept video card on Kotor 2 and u can read bout that problem above. The program used to work. Now all of a sudden my old saves have appeared and the new ones aren't there. The autosave is up to date but if I try to edit it and apply then commit changed when I load the game none of the changes are there.

I have deleted and completely removed my SWKotor1 game, but my KSE is still showing saved games that are not present on my computer. The registry was even scrubbed. I even deleted and downloaded a separate copy of the KSE 3.3.3. Is there a way to correct this, becase I really like using the KSE???

Okay, I've looked at the Readme, checked what I am doing, but the editor does not want to work for me. I tried using it just before getting off the Endar Spire, made changes, hit Apply, the Commit. Hello. For some reason, even though my NPCs are all light side, a few seconds after I enter a game modified with this file, they become dark sided. Even if I afterwards change the goodevil number, they stay dark sided. Any ideas what causes this? And how could I stop it?

the editer works fine. but when i make my computer compatible with the game. the game will not reconive the game saves. i turn off the compatibility there are my gave saves where they should be. now if i don run the compatibility my games crashes. starwars kotor 2 and 1, also same thinhg happens with jade empire

I have been using KSE for 2 years and never had this kind of problem before.
The problem I am having is that I started a new game and I tried to change attons name/appearance/feats etc. Also add items to inventory etc.

Once I apply and Save these changes, I play the saved file but nothing has been implemented from KSE into the game. No changes, which is so strange since I use this all the time on my laptop.

Notice 1: I am a noob.

Notice and problem fix 2:

Make sure you run KSE in the same compatibility as your TSL game.
Secondly, run KSE as an administrator.

This problem is for the people who couldn't get any applied changes to appear on their save file.
