South Africa Pilot Project

In South Africa, the team will also use the vulnerability assessment process to engage with various stakeholders in the Namakwa District towards identifying two pilot project sites where we will be able to test the ecosystem-based adaptation (EbA) recommendations that emerge from the vulnerability assessment.

Work in the pilot projects will likely focus on vulnerable communal rangelands where livestock production is the key economic activity and EbA interventions can achieve the greatest livelihoods and biodiversity gains. Pilot projects will probably also implement restoration along wetland and seasonal river systems to ensure the greatest benefits to ecosystem service provision around water availability in this extremely water scarce environment.
