The Offshore Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Storage (Safety) Regulations 2009
(the Regulations) apply to Commonwealth waters where petroleum exploration, works or production are subject to the Offshore Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Storage Act 2006. The Regulations require divers to have Australian Diver Accreditation Scheme (ADAS) accreditation.
ADAS is a not-for-profit diver training and accreditation scheme established in July 2002. ADAS is administered by the ADAS Board which represents a cross section of occupational diving sectors. The Board aims to ensure that ADAS accreditation maintains a high level of professional standing and is recognised by international occupational diver certification bodies.
ADAS accreditation is awarded to divers who demonstrate they meet competency Standards. This certification is a necessary qualification for entry into the diving workplace as a scientific researcher, military work, aquaculture, police search and rescue or offshore or onshore construction diver.
