Gaywood Valley

This is an area of over 4,000 hectares, encompassing the watershed of the Gaywood River, which flows into King’s Lynn. It comprises a rich mosaic of habitats such as heathland, chalk stream and wetland as well as urban areas.

It is hoped that working with landowners we can restore wetlands, recreate heathland and where possible to restore the river and valley from source to mouth.

Restored heathland will provide a haven for churring nightjars, black darter dragonflies and exquisitely-marked silver-studded blue butterflies.

NWT nature reserves in the Gaywood Valley Living Landscape include NWT Roydon Common and NWT Grimston Warren

Gaywood Valley Living Landscape Appeal

Norfolk Wildlife Trust has a rare and urgent opportunity to purchase 95 acres of land next to NWT Roydon Common in the Gaywood Valley Living Landscape.

Open heathland is a habitat rarer than rainforest. More than three-quarters of the UK's lowland heath has been lost since 1800, including more than 80% of heathland in Norfolk. That makes it one of the fastest-declining habitats in Europe.

Please  read more about our appeal here and donate what you can to help us secure this land.
