Top 10 Twitter Tips for fledglings at 4Networking in Newbury

Morgan PR were talking Twitter again this morning! As a member of 4Networking we had been invited to present the 4Sight slot at today’s Newbury meeting at the Hilton Hotel at Chieveley in West Berkshire.

The 4Sight slot is designed for members of 4Networking to demonstrate their expertise and regular readers will be familiar with Morgan PR’s considerable knowledge and understanding of social media and the importance of Twitter.

Only a handful of those at this morning’s meeting were using Twitter, so The Top 10 Twitter Tips for Newbies was an appropriate topic our tips, and you can download it here.

The tips are aimed and helping new Twitter users to avoid making the mistakes that far too many businesses do. From Habitat and its blundering misuse of hashtags through to the estate agents who Morgan PR spotted merrily spamming (both Carter Jonas and Chancellors have since seen the error of their ways and did have honourable intentions!).

The social media world is not very forgiving (unless your crisis management is constantly coiled and ready to spring into action) and Google’s index ensures it never forgets, so it is vital to get it right from the very beginning.

There were plenty of questions and I was in demand for the one-to-one meetings that followed the presentation. Twitter and social media was a natural topic of conversation during these.

My first meeting was with Lorna Smith, a key account manager with leading health insurers WPA, now admittedly this was a little bit of a cheat! Lorna Smith is a member of Newbury Business Group, but she needed to chat to me about helping her clients with an event, so that what we used our one-to-one for!

The charming Steve Jones from Kinnarps (cunningly pronounced Shinnarps ) is passionate about the furniture business and was keen to know how Twitter could help. To his credit he is already flirting with Twitter and senses it can help deliver and it was encouraging to know he had already followed the foremost of our tips: Register your Twitter name! Although admittedly he had to be inventive considering his name!

Thanks should also go to Steve Jones for taking the photographs you see on this page from this morning’s presentation, not least the artistic one below that captures group leader Abigail Brown so nicely! (pictured below).

Lastly I met with Greg Spence from business advice consultants Connect4Advice Ltd and was able to find out more about his generous offer to perform a free website performance review for any 4Networking members, and indeed that has been extended to readers of this blog.

He had spoken about website positioning and asked if members’ websites were generating the right leads, enough leads and leads that convert. The free service Connect4Advice offers will test your site against over 450 checkpoints. Visit their website for more information and within 72 hours you could be more focused on ensuring your website delivers than ever before!

Talking to Greg he was quick to recognise the effort that Morgan PR has put into understanding social media and we will be meeting again to explore how our expertise can benefit his clients.

So taking the opportunity to present a 4Sight slot has certainly help Morgan PR; within any networking organisation it is worth taking any opportunity to present your skills to the members and guests who attend. Through the 4Networking website we have already received invitations to present at other 4Networking groups, so perhaps see you at one of those soon?

Sounds like a good session Nigel & Diane, pleased it went well!

Of course Morgan PR and my business Expertise on Tap are a real testament of the power of the 4Sight slot because we first met at 4Networking Newbury 12 months ago when I presented a 4Sight slot on email marketing. Shortly afterwards you engaged me to produce your email newsletter and the rest, as they say, is history!

Thank you for the comments, I really enjoyed the 4sight. Would like to see it on the 4n circuit in either Andover or Basingstoke.

As always a very lively and informative presentation. Each time I see Nigel or Diane present on Twitter and other media marketing I learn something new. - Just need to practice it "consistently!"

Sorry I missed a great 4Sight by Nigel. Twitter is everywhere and it's great to see helpful hints and tips being talked about to make people aware of how effective it can be for business.
