Discover how a qualification in social media could help you

One of Morgan PR's most talented associates is Mary Thomas from Concise Training. Whenever our clients, conference delegates, or followers on Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn ask for help we refer them to Mary.

Unlike many of those offering so-called social media training, Mary is a professional trainer and she knows exactly how to help her training delegates to understand how they should be using social media. Little wonder that Concise Training is the only company to deliver the new ITQ Social Media qualification.  This qualification (similar to NVQs) is accredited by City & Guilds and is offered at Level 2 (equivalent to GCSE) and Level 3 (equivalent to 'A' Level).

Here at Morgan PR we believe this training course is ideal for people who want to be a social media manager for businesses. Weekly we are approached by companies looking for qualified social media managers and sadly online course are not sufficient. However this NVQ style qualification is exactly what they are looking for and we expect successful students to be in great demand!

At level 3, the qualification will cover the following aspects of Social Media:
- Review of the current marketing strategy of a business
- Understanding why Social Media and the measurements of success
- Social networking (Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook)
- Social Media Management Tools
- Video
- Keywords and introduction to Search Engine Optimisation
- Blogging
- The use of Google Analytics
- Reflection of the use of the Social media tools and development of an ongoing strategy.

The qualification is assessed based on the evidence found in social media profiles, posts and updates as well as reflections using a personal, training blog.  Once Mary has completed final assessment of the portfolios, there is a further level of verification carried out by the registered centre (DawsonLoane).  This double check by two experienced practitioners will ensure a high level of quality.  Clearly, anybody who obtains this qualification will have an excellent understanding of how Social Media should be used in business - and a recognised qualification.

At level 3, the qualification is approximately 180 learning hours and is expected to take between 4 and 7 months depending on the individual.  This ensures a constant use of the tools so we can ensure that best practice is a long term goal.

Mary works with each individual or business to develop the best approach to achieving the qualification.  To ensure maximum flexibility, there is a price for registration, assessment, resources and support and a separate price for any training required.  This is because different people have different training requirements and learning preferences.  Mary can deliver training using her online classroom, at the client site or she regularly runs workshops in Faringdon.

Concise Training has two places left at next phase of training £1,300 + VAT for registration, assessment and support (8 hours of 1 - 1 support with Mary is included).

This is not just another piece of paper.  The ITQ for Social Media is an assessed qualification. This means that you will need to evidence practical skills as well as knowledge and understanding of Social Media.  You will be asked to create and implement your social media strategy with understanding of  your audience as well as being able to demonstrate practical skills in using HootSuite or Tweetdeck, Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook, blogging, video, etc.  You will also be asked to evidence best practice in using the tools.

So if you are serious about social media as a career, do chat to Mary about ITQ Social Media Qualfications and we know she will be able to help and advise you. The first candidate are already qualifying and are proving exceptionally talented about social media!

As the first candidate to complete the coursework and awaiting the final verification of the qualification for the ITQ3 I cannot recommend the course and Concise Training highly enough. The course is not only educational its terrific fun too!

I had been managing social media accounts for clients for sometime before the ITQ was launched but as with a lot of things you get comfortable with the way you work and with the tools you use and don’t always have the time to explore other means or new ideas. This course has really expanded my knowledge base by challenging what I was already doing, introducing me to social media platforms I had never thought about using and actually changing my mind about one or two others I disliked!

Although the qualification will not be verified for a few more days it has already had a positive impact on my business with among other things new clients coming on board for Social Media management and established clients asking for practical ‘how to’ workshops.

Thanks Nigel and Lin for your fabulous comments!

I love seeing how people develop whilst doing the course - in their understanding of the tools available, the best way of using the tools and their understanding of their own business too.

It has been a pleasure working with you Lin - and congratulations on achievement as the verification is now complete and the certificate applied for.

There's a lot of individuals now trying to deliver Social Media for clients, and as this is still a relatively new area for marketing business, its very difficult for a company to know if the 'so-called Experts' are actually experts.

This is where the ITQ Social Media can set you apart, you can easily demonstrate that you have the knowledge, know-how and strategic thinking to help any business make the best of the new Social Media Platforms.

If you are serious about delivering Social Media, then this course is a 'must-do' activity, total immersion in the environment over an extended period is the best way to understand what works and what doesn't.

Mary from Concise Training is a superb coach and her abilities also challenge your own thought process so the experience proves very reflective as you challenge your own ideas.

Fantastic Course, Fantastic fun, and worth the investment in both time and money :)

Thanks for your comment Karen and congratulations on qualifying!

I've said in the post I am certain it will help identify social media professionals - however, you might still want to ask 13 Killer Questions for a Social Media Expert - a download we produced a little while back to help businesses looking for social media support identify those who have jumped on the bandwagon! Has proven a very popular download.
