Britains Got Talent - particularly among cybersquatters

Last month we published a blog post about Susan Boyle and how cybersquatters were targetting her, and how they were registering domains with her name. This followed a report in The Guardian and we urged people to look beyond their web domains and also protect their Twitter domain too.

In yesterday's Telegraph Online they have published a story warning just the same! after research by a PR company had shown all but two domain names for semi finalists in the show had already been registered.

London PR agency Speed Communciations had cleverly done a straightforward check on the availability of domain names and turned this into a powerful press release.

Protecting domain names is obvious and registering them should be something that Britain's Got Talent contestants should be encouraged to do when they know they are going to appear on the television show. Similarly, registering your Twitter name to avoid such online piracy should be another automatic given.

Naturally having your own domain name could prove crucial in any further public relations and similarly is essential if you want to make light work of Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). Failure to follow the simple process of securing your own names for your own use can avoid confusion and heartache, not to mention the need for crisis management should someone begin to damage your reputation via a stolen domain.
