An expert witness appointment for Easton Bevins means PR

The recent appointment of Chris Easton, the Senior Partner of Chartered Building Surveyors Easton Bevins as a Governor of the Expert Witness Institute (EWI) is a typical example of how external activities within your business can capture the headlines on and offline. He we explore how we approached that.

Morgan PR clients Easton Bevins are highly respected Chartered Building Surveyors with offices in Newbury, Bristol, Cheltenham and Salisbury and provide building surveys and a host of allied services through to block management. Unfortunately not everyone uses Easton Bevins from the outset and building disputes can arise, which is where the work of Chris Easton as an expert witness comes into play.

The prestigious appointment to the EWI reflects his work as an expert witness for more than 15 years and follows a series of interviews during the course of last year. This naturally provides a good PR opportunity to promote not only the Chris Easton's expert witness role and the role of his Litigation Department, but the overall provision of services from Easton Bevins.

In the press release that we distributed there were succinct quotes. For example, a delighted Chris Easton explained: “The role of the Expert Witness in our judicial system, courts, tribunals, arbitrations and adjudications is unique.  We are the only people who are asked to give our opinion on the matters between the litigants.

“In my day to day dealings with other Experts, I have been concerned at the poor understanding of their duties to the court and compliance with the Civil Procedure Rules. I hope I can bring to the EWI greater pressure to inform and educate experts of all disciplines who appear in the judicial system.  Compliance with the Civil Procedure Rules is critical to the success of justice, and expedites a conclusion to the matter before the Court or Tribunal."

We also included a validation quote from the Chairman of the EWI, James Badenoch QC, who commented: “I am delighted to welcome Chris Easton onto the Board of the EWI. He brings to the Institute both wide experience in his specialist field and established skills in management, which are great assets to the important work we do”.

We rounded off with some background, qualifications and a clearer explanation of Chris Easton's role as Litigation Department Manager and Practice Principal of Easton Bevins, which has offices in Bristol, Newbury, Cheltenham and Salisbury and employs over 30 staff across these offices.

In the 1990s he became heavily involved in litigation and arbitration and developed this area of the practice. He now regularly acts as an Expert Witness in building construction, contract disputes and negligence claims in the Technology and Construction Division of the High Court. In 2003 Chris became a Member of the Expert Witness Institute. Chris is also a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors and a Member of the Association of Building Engineers.

He also has extensive experience of The Housing Grants, Construction & Regeneration Act 1996, he is in the Law Society’s list of Expert Witnesses, a member of the Society of Expert Witnesses is contained within the R.I.C.S Expert Witness Registration Scheme and is an active member of the Adjudication Society.

The press release concluded with appropriate contact details and was distributed across a pre-existing list of publications and websites that would find this story relevant. Each publication was contacted individually as it is a naive person who uses Blind Carbon Copy to distribute press releases. We are still seeing the results from the distribution of the release with some of the publications having long lead in times.

It is also worth mentioning Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) as throughout the release we used key phrases that help Google direct people to Easton Bevins and help evidence their professionalism
