Berkshire PR firm invited to offer Royal Wedding advice on air

Berkshire public relations and social media consultancy Morgan PR has been giving public relations advice to the Royal couple Kate & Wills, telling them how best they can manage the media in the run up to the Royal Wedding - now announced for April 29th next year.

Now, don't get too excited! Just because Kate Middleton hails from Bucklebury doesn't mean the family are going to ask a Newbury public relations firm for advice, however BBC Radio Berkshire did! Nigel Morgan was invited on to the popular Debbie McGee show on Sunday morning (yesterday) to share his PR wisdom to the benefit of the Royal couple.

We were also joined by Berkshire relationship expert Juliette Smith who had also been invited to give a professional insight for the Royal lovebirds to ensure that their marriage is perhaps happier than Charles & Diana's proved to be.

Naturally a Sunday morning show was far more wide ranging than just the forthcoming Royal wedding and delightfully irreverent at time. The off air chats were fun too and I may have sparked a Tweetdeck vs. HootSuite debate between Debbie McGee and her magician husband Paul Daniels. It would seem he is a Tweetdeck fan and she was looking for the best platform for her new phone - and I recommended HootSuite! You can follow both Debbie McGee and Paul Daniels on Twitter to see what happens.

I recommended the Royal couple start blogging. I explained that there is such a phenomenal appetite within the British media for stories about Kate and Wills, for snippets about the wedding plans and background photographs that ideally they need to own the agenda. Pooled photo and video opportunities are all very well, but they just fuel the appetite for more news.

I'm not suggesting they live and breathe their engagement on social media, but regular blog posts, which of course could be delegated to their own PR team, could be used to inform not just the media, but also the wider audience of what they have planned and what they are doing. Direct from the Royal horse's mouth so to speak. It would not stop the media chasing background, but it would introduce an antidote to the hunt for exclusives relating to the wedding. It could also be used to reject false stories.

William has always kept the media at a distance, but that approach may not best serve him or his wife-to-be particularly well in the coming months and indeed years. After all the Queen is on Facebook!

Listening to one another was the key piece of advice given by Juliette Smith and communication was key for the Royal couple. She explain in personal and professional relationships it was a failure to properly communicate, ideally face to face, that lay behind many conflicts. Juliette writes a popular blog on relationship matters and is @CoachJuliette on Twitter.

I must confess I'm rarely listening to BBC Radio Berkshire on a Sunday morning, but after meeting Debbie McGee I think I will tune in to the show in the future.

So, while you might not have a Royal Wedding to plan, if you need public relations advice in Newbury, or Berkshire, contact Morgan PR and we would be delighted to explore how best to help you.

If only all couples could have some PR before they get married, maybe divorce rate would go down!
