Built Environment Industry Innovation Council

Announcement

Senator Kim Carr, Minister for Innovation, Industry, Science and Research announced the establishment of the Built Environment Industry Innovation Council (BEIIC) and the appointment of Ms Sue Holliday as the inaugural chair of the BEIIC on 2 September at the 2008 Built Environment Meets Parliament Summit.

Background

The BEIIC acts as an advisory body to the Minister and as an innovation advocate for the industry. The Council considers industry innovation challenges like climate change, sustainability and industry competitiveness as well as issues such as regulatory reform, workforce capability, skills needs, access to new technologies and other priorities for the industry.

Membership of BEIIC has been drawn from representatives from business, the research community, unions and government agencies. The BEIIC will provide leadership to the built environment sector. It will promote BEIIC stakeholder engagement activities and build relationships and linkages with the Enterprise Connect Network, peak industry bodies and other stakeholders.

Priorities

In 2008-09 the Council focused on developing its Strategic Plan 2009-2014 [PDF 70KB]. This Strategic Plan outlines desired outcomes for the built environment industry by 2014, pathways to achieving these outcomes and a set of eight milestones that the Council aims to achieve in 2010.

The Council will support projects, including Building Information Modelling, and activities that will contribute to implementing these milestones.
