The discussion of religion and faith resonates across the world, often centering around one question---does God exist? One man claims he has the answer.

tjd8591, Prof. Frank J. Tipler's Omega Point Theory has been published in a number of prestigious peer-reviewed physics journals, such as Reports on Progress in Physics, Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society (one of the world's leading astrophysics journals), Physics Letters, the International Journal of Theoretical Physics, etc. Even NASA itself has peer-reviewed his Omega Point Theory and found it correct according to the known laws of physics (see NASA Breakthrough Propulsion Physics Workshop Proceedings, January 1999, pp. 111-119). Out of 50 articles, Tipler's 2005 Reports in Progress in Physics paper--which presents the Feynman-Weinberg quantum gravity/Standard Model Theory of Everything--was selected as one of 12 for the "Highlights of 2005" accolade as "the very best articles published in Reports on Progress in Physics in 2005 [Vol. 68]. Articles were selected by the Editorial Board for their outstanding reviews of the field. They all received the highest praise from our international referees and a high number of downloads from the journal Website." (See Richard Palmer, Publisher, "Highlights of 2005," Rep. Prog. Phys. website.) Rep. Prog. Phys. is the leading journal of the Institute of Physics, Britain's main professional body for physicists. Further, Rep. Prog. Phys. has a higher impact factor (according to Journal Citation Reports) than Physical Review Letters, which is the most prestigious American physics journal (one, incidently, which Prof. Tipler has been published in more than once). A journal's impact factor reflects the importance the science community places in that journal in the sense of actually citing its papers in their own papers. Tipler is Professor of Physics and Mathematics (joint appointment) at Tulane University. His Ph.D. is in the field of global general relativity (the same rarefied field that Profs. Roger Penrose and Stephen Hawking developed), and he is also an expert in particle physics and computer science.

I seriously hope that the people of this city are intelligent enough to realize that if someone had actually proven god's existence, as a first cause, let alone that Christianity has it right, that it would be headline news all over the world. Not to mention that the book is three years old and from what I have researched has little to no credibility on the scientific plain. It disappoints me that people who simply don't have the answer keep claiming that they do. It disappoints me even further that this man is a teacher, and that the professor at JU took his hypothesis under serious consideration. If you want to believe, then believe. If you don't want to believe, then don't. But don't disgrace the name of science or math by trying to make the evidence fit a presupposed conclusion.

What about the problem of infinate regress (the problem of biology, not physics). If God is our father, then , by implication God must have had a mother and a father, and so must his many ancestors. Where did they come from? David R. Simon, PhD/Postdoctoral Fellow

"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. That's proof there. God is not in any equation; He Spirit indwells and lives in all that have professed Jesus as their Lord and Savior! Those 10 words prove that God lives!

Again millions upon million of people troughout the world of all different faiths pray each and every day for peace and yet this loving, caring God does nothing. Justify it any way you want, personally I don't think he is listening anymore.

In response to GaryG: A loving parent will often let their child experience pain/challenges/trials rather than spoil them and protect them from all experiences in order to either help their beloved child grow and evolve or to discipline them, therefore once again, helping them to grow and evolve. It is no different with our Father, our Creator, who loves us. If He did not allow free will, what kind of love would that be? It is not God who creates the hate and evil, that is man's doing. It is God who helps those who reply on him through it.

GaryG - 5/18/2010 2:27 PM
Ok all of you faithfull beleivers out there. If God does exist as an all powerful, all knowing, omnpotent being, why does he allow so much hate and evil to exist in this world with so many of you all praying on a daily basis for peace and cicility in the world. Either he is not listening, doesn't care, or has become just plain apethetic.

Controversial new book? Huh? It came out in 2007 and as one reviewer at the time said, "The reader must beware falling into the black hole of gibberish." Why review a book that is #337,720 on Amazon.com's sales ranking three years after publication? That isn't news.

GOD LIVES, ENOUGH SAID!
