GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. -- A Clay County couple is homeless after flames destroyed their home. Neighbors called firefighters after the home was already fully involved.

Thankfully, no one was hurt.

"The home was a total lose, The homeowners are on scene now and they are quite devastated. We've asked the American Red Cross to come out to provide some assistance to the homeowners," said Deputy Chief, Richard Knoff.

Investigators say a space heater in a bedroom started that fire. The estimated damage is $100,000.

i understand that the cold weather here in j-ville is generally warm, what i dont understand is why is it that every time we have a cold snap people burn their houses down.i know as well as anyone the cost to heat and cool a home but to have to use some outdated space heater and not comprehend the suspect history of these products is risking life and all you have.there are space heaters available now that are low wattage, heat better and wont burn your house down.so,if you choose to heat that way spend the extra dollar on a new age heater
