JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Florida Department of Transportation says there will be nightly lane closures all week on the Dames Point Bridge.
The closures will begin Sunday night and run through Sunday, February 20. The closures will be between 7:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m.
Crews closed two southbound lanes of the bridge for several hours on Saturday night for emergency repairs.
Crews replaced a lock that needed urgent attention after an inspection. The work is part of an ongoing maintenance project to replace the locks that hold the segments of the bridge together. Crews have been working on the project for several weeks.
DOT spokesman Mike Goldman said crews also put a plate over a joint that appeared to be coming loose on the inside lane. The move is to prevent damage to cars. The work is common for bridges that are twenty years or older, said Goldman.
