Mattiace was born in Mineola, New York. He attended Nease High School. Mattiace's two wins on tour are the 2002 Nissan Open and the 2002 FedEx St. Jude Classic. In 2003, he shot a 65 on the final round of The Masters, which put him into a playoff with Mike Weir. Mattiace lost to Weir on the first playoff hole.

Len was rookie on TOUR in 1993 after earning initial TOUR card through Qualifying School. He Captured the 1984 Florida High School Championship and was a member of Wake Forest's 1986 NCAA Championship team. He’s left-handed but plays golf right-handed. Len his own charitable organization, "Len's Friends" foundation, that aids Jacksonville, FL, charities with a series of golf events. The Web site for event is lensfriends.org.
