JACKSONVILLE, FLA. -- In this modern day battle between the sexes, its all about the bottom line. If you wear a tie, you pay one price and if you wear a skirt you may pay another.

The products are basically the same but there's a big difference in price.

"I think it's ridiculous that female deodorant costs more," says Lauren Morgan.

Fran Stone doesn't think its fair either.

"That's not fair, but my product may have more in it," Fran says.

And when Brandon Freeman heard about the difference in prices, his response was, "I think a man just goes in and grabs whatever."

So we sent the Fran and Brandon shopping to find out. We gave them a list with the same items on it and sent them shopping. They shopped on the same day at the same time.

Fran was surprised.

"I've never noticed that before, I do some shopping for men, but haven't paid much attention to that fact. It's very interesting. Not fair, but very interesting."

Brandon was surprised too.

"It's not really fair for the ladies and they're the exact same product. I don't mind it. It helps the guys out."

Brandon paid $1.79 for his Arbesol shaving cream, while Fran paid $2.99 for the women's version in a skinnier can.

Nivea Body wash for men, $4.99. For women its $6.99. Fran's speed stick cost her $3.29 and Brandon paid $3.19 for Speedstick for men, once again men pay less for more.

Even Excedrin Menstrual Complete has the same active ingredients and the same amount of pills as the regular pain reliever, but it cost women a dollar more. We even found the price of smelling good may be more for women too.

"Women will pay more because we like to smell good and men can just throw on anything," says Ariel Butler.

A bottle of Tommy Girl is $27.99, but the Tommy for men is only $24.99 and the same goes for Curve Crush. Women pay nearly 6-bucks more for a smaller bottle. And all of the fragrances have similar ingredients.

By the time Fran and Brandon finished shopping: Fran's total was $28.67 and Brandon's was $18.75. Fran paid nearly 58-percent more than Brandon for products that are nearly identical.

Consumer reports sparked some outrage recently revealing some products used by women and men have similar ingredients, although they may show up on store shelves at different prices. Manufacturers say there's a good reason for the price differences. They say women shave in the shower, so their shaving cream comes in a more expensive rust can. Nivea says their Women's body wash has skin sensation technology, but no matter the explanation, the secret is out.

Some women say no way to what amounts to a gender surcharge.

"I don't think I'll buy men's products because I'm afraid I'll start to grow hair on my face or something," said Amy Fullerton.

And Brandon says its not the guys fault.

"I'm sorry, I don't make the pricing."

The lady makes the point in saying: "I don't think I'll buy men's products because I'm afraid I'll start to grow hair on my face or something," said Amy Fullerton. That's why you get charged more. Because you think you need something specifically made for women. So, they package for you and charge more and YOU BUY IT! That last part is the most important part: YOU BUY IT! It's not like you don't have the OPTION to buy the same exact things men use, yet you want to make this as issue of "fairness." How stupid.

When I read the title, I mistakenly thought a news person had FINALLY reported on the additional cost women now have to pay to get their paper work together to get renewed drivers licenses...but NO!!! SO...Mr Glover, if you will please, be advised and pass along is that in addition to my certified birth certificate from California, which cost me $14.50 and EIGHTEEN WEEKS of waiting for it...I had to get the certified copies of marriage licenses (2 x $5)and the divorces from my two former marriages (2 x $5)...to "show name changes from birth certificate to current name". This, after I, at age 56, have been married twice before, and now married for 13 years...I had to PAY for copies of records I had long ago shredded after I got rid of those turds...Women need to be told that they are facing this as they come due to renew their drivers licenses! It's all in the interest of our National Security. The legal aliens have to have their green cards, SS card, proof of address...the red blooded American men just need their birth certificates (certified copies only), SS card, two proofs of address....and women that have name changes (married) or (married and divorced and remarried) WE have to prove we are citizens by tracing our name changes from birth to what it currently is to get our drivers licenses RENEWED?!!! When we had to submit each change to FDL to begin with to get our names changed on our licenses to begin with!!! That, Mr Glover, is a GENDER SURCHARGE. And I am still plenty fummed about it.

Well, I guess I can handle some men's items if it means saving a few dollars in this economy.

And don't get me started on the gender disparity in the pricing of drycleaning! Many Land's End or L.L. Bean shirts for men and women are identical, except for the side the placket is on. Take 2 identical plain blue button-down shirts to a drycleaners. If the drycleaner thinks it's a shirt for a small man, it's one price. If the drycleaner thinks it's a "blouse" for medium woman, it's a higher price. For years, drycleaners have said they "have to" charge women more because they (the drycleaners) don't have small presses and have to hand-iron the blouses. Nonsense. First, a business should BUY the equipment it needs in order to offer its services to its paying customers. Second, the broken buttons on women's shirts and blouses attest to the fact that the presses ARE being used on them. This is nothing but "we can get away with it and make extra profit if we drycleaners all do the same thing." Shame, shame. A smart drycleaner who prices his or her services fairly and equitably in these times of economic downturn will find a line of grateful new customers outside the store!!!

This is why when I have to shave my legs I do it after shampooing my hair and the shampoo and conditioner are still on my body no need for shaving cream just warm water and shave under the flow of the shower never cut myself yet. As for deod we use the same one cost like $1.50 Arm N Hammer. Toothpaste .88 my dentist told me it is all the same and not to use the bleaching, whiting, remove tarter/enamel and such if you clean like you are supposed to and eat right teeth will be fine. Ya see it is just searching for the product ingredients and what you want the product to do that counts not the name or the face on the label.

I guess it's payback for all those Lady's Nights that allow the women to get in and drink free while the guys have to cough up the cover charges and pay for overpriced beverages. Or maybe for the upcharge on guy's life and car insurance. Either way, if you're going to gripe about the playing field, make sure you don't stop at the 50 yard line. Make it all fair and even.
