JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- These days, every dollar counts. That's why we're sharing little-known secrets to saving money at local stores.
"These are things they don't necessarily want to be broadly known, but they are out there to the saavy consumer," says marketing expert Kathleen Kusek.
So here are just a few:
First, did you know that you don't have to be a member of Sam's Wholesale Club to save? This secret only applies to beer, liquor, and wine--but here's the deal: in Florida, some membership clubs will not bar you from shopping for alcohol at their stores.
That means you can save on that next bottle of wine without spending $40 dollars to join. By the way, this savings applies to BJ's, too.
This next secret savings tip is for parents. How would you like to replace clothes your kids have worn out, for free? Sears offers the option with the KidVantage Club. It's free to join, and parents who register can replace worn clothes without paying a dime. The only exception to this rule is underwear. So sign up and Sears will also send you coupons for future purchases, too.
Next on the list, Chipotle. Who doesn't love a meal from this Tex-Mex fast-food favorite? Employees say you can order up to four different sides when you order a burrito bowl, at no extra cost. Shopper Jessica Ayala tried this secret savings out, but she only got two side items for free.
The ottom line here is you won't find secret savings unless you ask. Ask for a senior discount, military discount, birthday discount, even a new parent discount.
Be more vocal about saving, and you could open yourself up to saving more.
