Kiran goes for a jumbo Cabinet

December 2nd, 2010

Dec. 1: The Chief Minister, Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, unveiled his jumbo Cabinet of 39 ministers on Wednesday. He, however, only announced the portfolios late in the night. The Governor, Mr E.S.L. Narasimhan administered the oath to the ministers at Raj Bhavan on Wednesday morning.

Of the 39 ministers, 16 (40 per cent) were from Telangana and 24 (including the CM) were from the Andhra region which also comprises Rayalaseema as part of the Gentlemen’s Agreement.

Though it was not declared, it is understood that the deputy chief minister’s post will also be allocated to a minister from Telangana who, in all likelihood, will be Mr Damodar Rajanarasimha. This time, too, Adilabad district did not get any representation.

It is, however, difficult to gauge the amount of independence the CM had in choosing his team as 28 ministers from the previous Cabinet were retained and some of the 11 new ministers were inducted clearly against his wishes. There were also no surprises relating to the ministers who were dropped. Jagan loyalists, Mr P. Subash Bose and Mr B. Srinivasa Reddy, besides the CM’s bete noire, Mr P. Ramachandra Reddy, were shown the door.

It is not only a jumbo cabinet but a jumbo "Reddy" cabinet. It appears 15 ministers including the CM belong to the Reddy community. The Congress high command and the CM should be ashamed of themselves.

The most secular Congress is able to accomodate only 1 minister from the Muslim community in this jumbo govt - Jai Ho!

Kiran Kumar's idea of too many Reddys in ministry and important portfolios doled to them is bound to make it Reddy government rather than AP Government. He & Congress will pay bitter price for this act of imbalance. I am sure Reddys in buearaucracy will alone get plum postings and state would be pushed into turmoil. God save AP.

The newly sworn in misters are given portfolios to serve the citizens of Andhra Pradesh. They should realize they were give n ministerial berths not to server themselves. If they feel not fit to serve the people, they should give way to the others who are willing to serve. Enough is enough. It’s time to sit down and work. The CM should not yield to the blackmail threat. They should realise that every portfolio is important to serve the state. They have worked in lucrative portfolios, so now now it’s their time to taste less lucrative posts. Learn from your party chief, the spirit of sacrifice. Dear ministers have a broad mind and big heart to serve the state and its citizens. Don’t forget that you are elected to serve, not to be served.

Does Ponnala Lakshmaiah have any idea about IT to be IT minister, though one can argue about his irrigational knowledge when he was irrigation minister?

Mr. Lakshmaiah is a graduate of Osmania University Engineering College and did his MS in Engineering in the US (late sixties). I would say, he is not as bad as others.
