Hyderabad in grip of cold wave

Hyderabad, Dec. 7: A cold wave has gripped the city and most parts of the state with maximum day temperatures dipping significantly.

In the state capital, the maximum temperature fell by 5ºC to 23.2ºC on Tuesday evening against a normal temperature of 28º C for this time of year.

Skies were overcast throughout the day, with brief drizzles that gave way to spells of moderate rainfall at night. Sweaters and raincoats were much in evidence with the sun being entirely absent. The weather forecast says that the next 48 hours will be overcast with light to isolated heavy rainfall over Telangana, including Hyderabad.

The Hyderabad district collector, Mr Natarajan Gulzar, said though the day temperatures have fallen significantly, there is no need to shut down schools.

Elsewhere in the state, a majority of towns and cities saw maximum temperatures taking a dive and hovering around 20ºC and 21ºC. Interestingly, the minimum temperatures in the city and elsewhere in the state are three to four degrees above normal. In Hyderabad, the minimum temperature was 18.6ºC, against the norm of 14ºC.
