General information about City of Stockholm

Stockholm is a city with a large number of young people. There are more than 100,000 pupils in our schools – 74,000 in the compulsory school for the 6-16 age group and 27,000 at upper secondary level. The City provides education to all children, young people and adults regardless of the responsible authority. About 25 % of the schools are run by non-municipal actors, but the funding system is the same for all. Objective information about all schools and the education on offer is provided, in order for service-users to make a qualified choice. All schools, both independent and municipal, are characterised by a high level of independence. Thus, the Stockholm schools display a great variety in the ways the national educational standards are met, but all of them have one thing in common: the aim to provide each child with world class education and to give possibilities for every child to become a global citizen with the self-confidence and skills necessary to contribute to a sustainable world.

Stockholm welcomes visitors to share and discuss our challenges in achieving these aims. We offer our visitors the opportunity to take part in a structured study visit with plenty of room for discussions, where we can share experiences. The suggested time for a visit is about 4 hours, which includes a visit to a school.
