The year as Europe’s first Green Capital

General information about City of Stockholm

During its year as European Green Capital, Stockholm shall set an example through its own long-term environmental work and inspire other cities to achieve a more sustainable environment, by such means as increasing the sharing of knowledge and experiences between European cities.

This means, among other things, that the City will be inviting international delegations to conduct study visits. Stockholm already welcomes a large number of study visits, but this new award will further raise levels of interest.

In connection with its year as Green Capital, Stockholm will be organising an international conference with an emphasis on study visits for delegates. Also planned is a series of seminars on different topics throughout the course of the year. The City also welcomes initiatives from other players who want to help profile Stockholm as an example of a world-class, expanding, sustainable major city during the year (read more about this under the heading “Partnerships”).

The Green Capital award has been made to the whole of the City of Stockholm and will therefore permeate all of the City’s activities throughout 2010. This will be evident in everything from exhibitions at Kulturhuset to the official opening of the new tramway in central Stockholm.
