The City Theatre

Culture

The City Theater, Stadsteatern, encompasses seven theatres under one roof at Sergels torg, in the very centre of Stockholm. Each of those theatres have their own profile regarding repertoire and audiences. The main theatre puts on plays for a wide audience. The "Klara" and "Lilla" theatres are both largely experimental. Kafé Klara is a foyer theatre offering lunchtime performances five days a week. "Unga Klara" and the puppet theatre "Långa Näsan" work with performances for children and teenagers. Backstage aims its productions at young adults aged 20-30. Stadsteatern also runs the open-air "Parkteatern" which offers free theatre in the public parks around Stockholm during the summer months. "Ung Scen" is a touring theatre playing in the suburbs for children and teenagers.

The Museums

Culture

The local museums are the City Museum "Stockholms Stadsmuseum" and the Museum of Medieval Stockholm "Stockholms Medeltidsmuseum". Both museums are very popular.

Liljevalchs konsthall, an art gallery of Swedish and international art, has one of Stockholm's most beautiful exhibition environments. Every year it hosts three to four exhibitions of contemporary and modern art. Recurring features are the Liljevalchs midcareer retrospectives as well as the Stockholm Spring Exhibition "Vårsalongen".

The museum opened in 1916 and is owned by the City of Stockholm. Liljevalchs is the Stockholmers' own art gallery, one that is equally welcoming visitors from around the country and from abroad.

"Blå Porten", a romantic restaurant located in conjunction with the museum, also hosts small exhibitions.
