ISOC's Public Policy Activities

WSIS World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS)

The Internet Society's Public Policy activities are based upon our fundamental belief that the Internet is for everyone. We envision a future in which people in all parts of the world can use the Internet to improve their quality of life, because standards, technologies, business practices, and government policies sustain an open and universally accessible platform for innovation, creativity, and economic opportunity.

In pursuing our public policy objectives, we operate collaboratively and inclusively, working with governments, national and international organizations, Civil Society, the private sector and other parties to reach decisions about the Internet that conform to our core values. ISOC Public Policy Priorities

ISOC’s public policy programs for 2007 to 2009 will build on our sustained leadership position in Internet governance discussions and the expectation among the ISOC community and beyond that we will play a growing central role in important Internet issues.

ISOC’s public policy programs will broaden and deepen, to address some unprecedented challenges facing the Internet of today and tomorrow. The “open development, evolution, and use of the Internet for the benefit of all people throughout the world” is under significant pressure from a range of commercial, technical, and policy challenges that will shape the Internet like never before.
