Carrying the world on his shoulder pads

True freshman quarterback Matt Barkley has adjusted fast to being under the microscope.

Resurrection of classic series fails to capture magic

Star Trek Rating: PG-13 Length: 126 min. Opens May 8 Imagine an ideal future, one with a united, noncommercial federation of planets that fights against the evils of space-time rifts, bigotry and universally recognizable evil. Add a hopeful, unapologetically cheesy can-do attitude, a faith in the human spirit and the thespian stylings of an amazingly charismatic William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy and there was the 1966 “Star Trek” television series. It’s generally acknowledged that when your dog pees on the carpet, you clean it up; you don’t throw a couple of napkins over the puddle and call it a day. Mess taken care of, you swat the dog’s nose with a rolled-up newspaper and tell him not to do it again. Full story

Trojans starter is a chip off the old Box

USC pitcher Brad Boxberger has a lot to live up to, namely his father’s own Trojan career.

When Brad Boxberger walks to the mound at Dedeaux Field, he is making the same trek his father, Rod Boxberger, did 30 years ago — he walks from the same dugout to the same mound and stares down batters at the same plate. Talk about following in his father’s footsteps.

A look back at the year that was

To say it’s been an eventful year in USC sports would be a bit of an understatement. No, the Trojans didn’t win the national championship in football, but there is reason to celebrate nonetheless. Of course, there were a few lowlights, but the high points greatly overshadowed them.

Never be afraid to prosecute for emotional blackmail

I broke up with my girlfriend twice, and both times she threatened to kill herself. I got back together with her, but the same problems keep rearing their ugly heads, and I’m just not happy about being with her anymore. In fact, I’m freaking miserable, but I’m worried that she’s going to threaten to kill herself again.
