    The Magic: The Gathering Pro Tour returns to Japan as Pro Tour–Kyoto kicks off the 2009 season! Truly the crown in the Magic tournament circuit, the Pro Tour offers something for everyone whether you’re new to the game or a seasoned World Champion.

    There will be a whole lot more than a $230,000 tournament taking place! Magic fans of all ages and experience levels will find something waiting for them at Pro Tour–Kyoto. Try Public Events, tournaments open to all and running throughout the weekend with fantastic prizes to boot. Face off against Magic celebrities in the Champions Challenge, or mingle with some of the game’s most talented artists as they sign cards for fans all weekend long. Get a glimpse into the pro lifestyle while seeing some of the game’s best in action live and up close. Whether you come for one day or the entire weekend, Pro Tour–Kyoto offers you the opportunity to have an absolute blast!

    Pro Tour–Kyoto is a Standard/Booster Draft format event that runs February 27-March 1, 2009. The Last-Chance Qualifier will be held Thursday, February 26, at Asny Kyoto starting at 11 a.m. The format for the LCQ is Shards of Alara/Conflux Sealed Deck, with the top four finishers earning a spot in the main event.     Tournament Format and Schedule

    Pro Tour–Kyoto is a three-day Standard and Booster Draft format event with a prize purse of $230,795. For more information about the format, schedule, and prize payout, click here.

    Travel Information

    Players arriving at Kansai International Airport should follow the signs to the rail station and take the Haruka Express on JR Nishi-Nihon Kansai Kuukou Line to Kyoto station. The trip lasts approximately 75 minutes and costs ¥ 3,690. Staff at the ticket booth can assist with the ticket purchase.

    Pro Tour Registration

    The Pro Tour–Kyoto Registration will occur at:

    Players must have a signed waiver and consent form to compete at Pro Tour–Kyoto. Forms can be downloaded at www.wizards.com/protour and will be available onsite.

    Minors must have a parent or guardian’s signature on these forms. Minors will not be able to register or play unless we receive a waiver signed by a parent or guardian. No exceptions!

    Bring these forms with you to registration. We will make forms available for competitors at registration, if necessary.

    To register, all participants must present one of the following forms of identification:

    • a driver’s license, or
    • a passport, or
    • a copy of a birth certificate and photo IDs (school IDs are acceptable).

    We encourage players to attend mandatory registration on Thursday. However we understand that delays might cause players to miss this and we have a registration on Friday morning between 7:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. Players at late registration do not always receive the same gifts as those at mandatory registration.

    Players not registered by 8:30 on February 27 may be denied entry to the Pro Tour.

    Site Attractions

    PUBLIC EVENTS
    Come one, come all to participate in four days of events open to the public. Starting Thursday with the Last-Chance Qualifier, there are tournaments, drafts, and open dueling all weekend. Pro Tour-Kyoto will also play host to a few extra-special events. Throughout the weekend “Beta” events will qualify players for a special draft featuring packs from Magic’s oldest set. Prizes include invitations and airfare to Pro Tour–Honolulu, iPods, Digital Cameras, your choice of two Power Nine cards, a complete set of Shards of Alara and Conflux foil cards, 30 Revised Dual Lands, and much more! Pro Tour–Kyoto also features Super Friday Night Magic and the $3,000 Draft Challenge.

    Test your Magic skills against the guys who make the game. Win and you get to walk away with cool Magic prizes!

    ARTISTS ON SITE
    Top Magic artists Todd Lockwood, Jeremy Jarvis, and D. Gregory Alexander will be at Pro Tour–Kyoto. The artists booth will be open Friday-Sunday from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. For more information about each artist, click here.

    WATCH THE TOP 8
    All of Sunday's Top 8 action can be viewed on screens in the hall. Sunday's action begins at 10:45 a.m. local time, which is 8:45 p.m. ET Saturday night, and is available as a webcast from the comfort of your own home.
