D&D Mystery Dungeon Challenge Rules & Information

Where:New York Comic Con 2009 at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York, NY

When: February 7, 2008 at 7 pm in the gaming hall

Theme: The theme for this Mystery Dungeon Challenge is "The Forgotten Crypts." In addition to the requirements listed below, you should endeavor to include some appropriately creepy element (such as undead) into your adventure.

What: Create a 4-5 hour adventure within the guidelines below:

  • Must be set in a dungeon setting (caverns, sewers, tombs, and the like are OK)
  • Designed to be played by 5-6 players with 3rd-level characters (we'll provide the characters)
  • Minimum of three combat encounters, maximum of five
  • Each encounter cannot be below 1st level or above 6th level (save your toughest fight for the end)
  • Designed for player fun and yet still to be challenging (write balanced encounters and finish the adventure within the time allotted)
  • Adventure cannot contain questionable material; must be appropriate for ages 13+
  • Designed to play on one 5-foot-diameter round table
  • Use Dungeon Tiles to lay out your dungeon
  • Use D&D Miniatures for your monsters and enemies in the dungeon
  • You are responsible for bringing all materials needed to run the game (see below)

Materials: You'll need to bring your adventure, the Dungeon Tiles you're using, the D&D Miniatures you need, and a copy of the Player's Handbook to the show to run your game. Oh, and of course, dice.

How: Get involved by simply showing up in the gaming hall at the Wizards area at 6:45 pm. Remember to purchase your badge at the convention in order to gain entry to the gaming hall. Make sure you have your materials, and get ready to give players a great time!

Swag: We have some great rewards for your effort! You'll receive a copy of one of the recent 4th Edition releases just for running your game and showing off your dangerous 4th Edition dungeon! In addition, we will hold a drawing where one lucky DM will win a free pass to Gen Con Indy 2009! (Product subject to availability. Cost of admittance to the convention is the responsibility of the participant.)

I Just Want to Play!

No worries if you'd rather just jump in and play … simply show up at the Wizards of the Coast area in the gaming hall at New York Comic Con on Saturday evening at 7 pm. We'll even have pregenerated characters ready for you to play. Players will be seated on a first-come, first-served basis, so show up a few minutes early to ensure that you have a spot at a table.
