Dell 1720 mono laser printer Reviewed on 04/12/2007

The Bottom Line: The Dell 1720dn offers fast prints and good print quality, making it an excellent mono laser printer for small offices or work groups.

Specs: Workgroup printer - Laser - Monochrome, A4 (8.25 in x 11.7 in), Legal (8.5 in x 14 in), Wired, 28 pages/min, 30 pages/min, PC, Mac, Unix, USB, Parallel

Lexmark X7675 Pro
  • Editors' rating: 4 stars
      Overall score: 8.0 (4.0 stars)
  • User rating: 4 stars out of 5 reviews
Lexmark X7675 Pro Reviewed on 12/11/2008

The Bottom Line: Aside from a few design hang-ups and a slower than average output speed, the Lexmark X7675 Professional all-in-one printer is a cut above other multifunctional printers. Its excellent quality prints, easy-to-set-up wireless connectivity, and generous five-year warranty catapult it to the top of our list of favorites.

Epson Artisan 800
  • Editors' rating: 3 stars
      Overall score: 6.0 (3.0 stars)
  • User rating: 4 stars out of 17 reviews
Epson Artisan 800 Reviewed on 11/06/2008

The Bottom Line: The Epson Artisan 800 produces impressive color prints, photos, and text documents, and it outpaces the competition in almost all of our speed tests. We're impressed by its performance, but hesitate to recommend this printer based on the poor build quality and error-prone software.

Specs: Fax, Copier, Printer, Scanner, Ink-jet, 4800 dpi

Dell All-in-One Wireless Printer V305w - multifunction ( printer / copier / scanner ) ( color )
  • Editors' rating: 2h stars
      Overall score: 5.3 (2.5 stars)
Dell All-in-One Wireless Printer V305w - multifunction ( printer / copier / scanner ) ( color ) Reviewed on 09/30/2008

The Bottom Line: The Dell V305w is cosmetically appealing and inexpensive, but the output quality needs significant improvement, and the cost to maintain the printer is much higher than the industry standard. We recommend checking out the competition for a printer that will give you longer-lasting inks, cheaper replacement cartridges, and more acceptable photo-quality prints.

Specs: Digital photo - Inkjet paper - Color laser paper, Legal (8.5 in x 14 in), A4, PC

Samsung CLP-315W
  • Editors' rating: 2h stars
      Overall score: 5.3 (2.5 stars)
  • User rating: 2 stars out of 8 reviews
Samsung CLP-315W Reviewed on 09/18/2008

The Bottom Line: The Samsung CLP-315W is a fancy looking wireless laser printer with a clean design and small footprint, but the output quality is unacceptable and the blisteringly slow speeds will have you searching for other options

Specs: Workgroup printer - Laser - Color, A4 (8.25 in x 11.7 in), Legal (8.5 in x 14 in), Letter A Size (8.5 in x 11 in), Wired, Wireless, 16 pages/min, 17 pages/min, 4 pages/min, PC, Mac, USB, 802.11b, 802.11g, Ethernet 10/100Base-TX

Kodak ESP 5
  • Editors' rating: 2h stars
      Overall score: 5.8 (2.5 stars)
  • User rating: 2h stars out of 10 reviews
Kodak ESP 5 Reviewed on 08/19/2008

The Bottom Line: The Kodak ESP5 is an attractive full color all-in-one printer, scanner, and copier, and casual photo enthusiasts will be happy with the watered-down editing software, but hard-core users should look elsewhere for a multifunction printer. The ESP5 is too expensive and suffers from too many mechanical deficiencies for us to give it our CNET stamp of approval.

Specs: Copier, Printer, Scanner, Ink-jet

HP Photosmart A636

      Overall score: 8.0 (4.0 stars)
HP Photosmart A636 Reviewed on 07/30/2008

The Bottom Line: The HP Photosmart A636 is an excellent at-home photo inkjet printer that's both versatile and easy to use. We highly recommend the A636 for its significant photo quality improvements over the last model and an attractive design to boot.

Specs: Compact photo printer - Ink-jet - Color, 4 in x 6 in, Wired, 3.7 pages/min, PC, Mac, USB

Canon Selphy CP770
  • Editors' rating: 3h stars
      Overall score: 7.3 (3.5 stars)
Canon Selphy CP770 Reviewed on 07/25/2008

The Bottom Line: The Canon Selphy CP770 is a neat, little dye-sublimation printer that includes a bucket for easy travel, but the wireless accessories aren't included. If you're shopping for a convenient travel-friendly printer, check out the Canon Selphy CP760 that offers the exact same technology with a similar style for a better price.

Brother MFC 7440N
  • Editors' rating: 3 stars
      Overall score: 6.5 (3.0 stars)
Brother MFC 7440N Reviewed on 07/15/2008

The Bottom Line: The Brother MFC-7440N prints quickly and is fairly inexpensive to sustain, but we simply can't get behind a printer with poor quality graphics, significant hardware defects, and a boring design.

Specs: Fax, Copier, Printer, Scanner, Laser, 600 x 2400 dpi, None

HP Photosmart C8180 All-in-One
  • Editors' rating: 3h stars
      Overall score: 7.0 (3.5 stars)
  • User rating: 2 stars out of 20 reviews
HP Photosmart C8180 All-in-One Reviewed on 06/04/2008

The Bottom Line: The C8180 multifunctional printer is an excellent choice for photo enthusiasts. It prints high-quality text and photos at a heavy price: the printer is s...l...o...w. If you always choose quality over speed, the c8180 will be a worthwhile addition to your digital toolshed.

Specs: Copier, Printer, Scanner, Ink-jet, 9600 dpi

Canon Selphy CP760

Canon Selphy CP760 Reviewed on 05/28/2008

The Bottom Line: The Canon Selphy CP760 takes the pain out of printing photos with its plug-and-play design and straightforward usability, and the $100 price tag makes it an excellent companion printer for quick prints in the home.
