Best Voice Acting

The quality of voice acting can make or break a game. Voice acting is becoming more abundant and increasingly important in games, and more recognizable actors and actresses are starting to lend their talents to bringing game characters to life. In recognition of this trend, we present the Best Voice Acting Award to the game that had the hands-down best voice work of any game this year. Here are the finalists:

The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay

(XBOX, PC)
Publisher: VU Games
Developer: Starbreeze
You'd think the worst prison in the galaxy would be home to some ridiculously over-the-top characters, yet The Chronicles of Riddick's cast delivers some excellent, surprisingly understated and consistently good performances.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

(PS2)
Publisher: Rockstar Games
Developer: Rockstar North
An all-star cast makes the California-inspired setting of San Andreas really come to life in Rockstar Games' latest crime epic. The quality of the game's voice acting is matched only by the sheer quantity of it.

Half-Life 2

(PC)
Publisher: VU Games
Developer: Valve Software
Some of the most believable-looking characters ever seen in a game are featured in Half-Life 2, and they're made all the more believable by the high quality of the game's voice work.

Otogi 2: Immortal Warriors

Publisher: Sega
Developer: From Software
The voice acting in Otogi 2 perfectly captures the game's distinctive feel. Despite the game's decidedly Eastern flavor, the English language track does an excellent job of contributing to Otogi 2's mystical characters and setting.

Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords

Publisher: LucasArts
Developer: Obsidian Entertainment
The Sith Lords' complex characters become much more believable and endearing thanks to the excellent and ample use of voiceover throughout the game.
And the Winner is...
