Visitors get a rare look at the Aquarium's "backstage" operations. Scheduled before the Aquarium opens, the guided tour offers unique opportunities to walk through workings most visitors only glimpse through windows, and visit some areas that cannot be seen otherwise. First an aquarist helps patrons hand feed the stingrays. Next, visit the "fish kitchen" where 18 tons of fish a year are prepared for the Aquarium's 2,000 animals. Then get a bird's eye view of the 110,000 gallon Open Ocean tank and watch the fish react to a broadcast feeding. Participants must be 10 years old or more; anyone under 15 must be accompanied by an adult. The tour is limited to 25 people, so reservations are strongly recommended. Walk-ups are welcome, however these tours consistently sell out; call early to ensure a spot on the tour.

Lucky seal spotters can see seals here when they "haul out" to rest on exposed rocks aboard The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk's research vessel Oceanic (RVO). In addition to seal spotting, the Aquarium's "Winter Creature Cruises" include winter waterfowl and other animals. In a two-and-a-half hour cruise, Aquarium educators describe winter population changes that occur in Long Island Sound. Departs winter weekends. Times vary by the tides, call for details. Visitors get a rare look at the Aquarium's "backstage" operations. Scheduled before the Aquarium opens, the guided tour offers unique opportunities to walk through workings most visitors only glimpse through windows, and visit some areas that cannot be seen otherwise. First an aquarist helps patrons hand feed the stingrays. Next, visit the "fish kitchen" where 18 tons of fish a year are prepared for the Aquarium's 2,000 animals. Then get a bird's eye view of the 110,000 gallon Open Ocean tank and watch the fish react to a broadcast feeding. Participants must be 10 years old or more; anyone under 15 must be accompanied by an adult. The tour is limited to 25 people, so reservations are strongly recommended. During the Revolutionary War, Major General Henry Knox, Commander of the American artillery, established his military headquarters at John Ellison's 1754 Georgian-style house. For most of the 18th and into the 19th century, the Ellison family had commercial dealings in milling and trade. This holiday event features hourly tours of the house decorated for an 18th century Christmas.
