Based on the first action-packed and fun episode, it looks like Kring and crew have succeeded in pulling out of their sophomore slump.

This is good bunk, fun bunk, energetic bunk. Much better bunk than the last volume.

The first hour of Heroes answers enough questions and moves the story forward in such a way that a few "Huh?" moments won't matter as long as they're answered in short order and don't linger for too long.

PopMatters Todd R. Ramlow
In their certitude, the villains are more compelling than their wishy-washy heroic counterparts. The real excitement of “Villains” is its promise to expand the series’ assortment of baddies: their unabashed queerness and freakery make for more fun.

Mr. Kring has assured interviewers and fans that the third season will correct those mistakes and recover the fast-paced suspense and tension of the first season. The premiere episode lives up to that pledge, with lots of violence, special effects and laser-fast editing. The plot and ever-escalating conspiracies are hard to follow, but even first-time viewers can easily get the gist.

Even just a half hour in, it's difficult not to wish everyone would just lighten the heck up. The graphic novel noir feel is becoming increasingly oppressive, and everyone is just so grim.

Boston Globe Joanna Weiss
NBC sent the first hour of tonight's two-hour season premiere to critics, and it's sprinkled with some of the original fun: inventive special effects, a twist or two, some nifty gore. That doesn't stop it from being the same, familiar mess.

Heroes may be better this year than it was last year, but it's still a very dumb show that just wants you to think it's smart.

This show, which was once so thrilling and fun, has become full of itself, its characters spouting crazy nonsense.

Bill B. gave it a9:
Frankly I'm amazed and quite shocked that people can give a series a score after a single episode. I at least watched a half dozen before giving it a low 9.

Elgin W. gave it a10:
I'm glad to see Heroes return to it's original form after last seasons horrible display.

Fantasy gave it a1:
What was once such a promising show has jumped the shark. I'm down to Tivoing it now but there are so many different stories going on it's hard to follow. When you stop caring about the characters in which the show has been reduced to a WWF event as in good one moment, bad the next, then back to good, who really cares? Have the writers ever heard of less is more? This will be the swan song as the show is doomed.

Jordan K. gave it a10:
Great start to the season. One may see that this season is heading in a great direction. Great so far, the premier may have been awkward and confusing, but it was only created to have people try to fill in the blanks themselves, brainstorm a little bit. Heroes took the once predictable but crazy climaxes into a mysterious darkness that needs to be resolved through a series of unfortunate events.

[Anonymous] gave it an8:
While not quite as good as Season 1, "Villains" improves drastically over Season 2, so that I'm actually excited to sit down and watch each week. It's not perfect: There has been at least 2 gaping plot holes in episode 4, but the storylines are interesting, the special effects are amazing, and the pace of the plot has really picked up nicely. If you were discouraged after Season 2 I highly recommend you check out Season 3.

Tage E. gave it a2:
The third season is a textbook definition of "Jumping the shark". Either the writers don't care or they're just negligent. Way too much is happening way too quickly and things are changing way to drastically for the show to be meaningful or interesting anymore.

Thomas W. gave it a10:
Season one = amazing season two = not so great, but could of been worse (stupid writer strike) Season three = back to what this show is about, amazing story, with plots and twist around every corner, when you think you got something figured out, they shove it in your face and say wrong! great!
