One wouldn't typically associate the violent angst of heavy metal with a small town like Lawrence. Kansas but Lawrence natives and metalcore stalwarts Esoteric are about as heavy as it gets. The Midwestern quintet formed in 1996 and is made up of members Cory White (guitar, voice), Eric Graves (guitar) Anthony Diale (Bass) Steve Cruz (voice, electronics) and Marshall Kilpatric (drums, percussion). Esoteric's members all come from rich rock music backgrounds and were previously members of bands like Coalesce, a renowned heavy metal outfit, the pop-rock band Reggie and The Full Effect and indie rock group Theta. Esoterics distinctive sound incorporates elements of their past groups and morphs them into dissonant, caustic, doom metal balanced out with ambient atmospherics and tech heavy instrumentals. Since their formation they've put out a self titled LP and several other releases including 1999's Metamorphogenesis their latest LP 2005's With the Sureness of Sleepwalking .
